The Dream Academy - Religion, Revolution & Railways

The Dream Academy – Religion, Revolution and Railways [7CD Boxset]

When Life in A Northern Town hit back in 1985, it broke through the synthesised din with the force of a bulldozer. The beautifully written, impeccably produced, acoustic, woodwind-infused vocal tour-de-force was unlike anything on radio before or since. The…

Tim Blake – Crystal Presence [3CD Boxset]

Back in 2017, Esoteric reissued all of Tim Blake’s existing studio albums and I was there to review all of them… except one. I loved Crystal Machine and Blake’s New Jerusalem, found The Tide of the Century to be lacking…

Baker Gurvitz Army: Neon Lights – The Broadcasts 1975, 3CD/2DVD Box Set

The Baker Gurvitz Army – Neon Lights [5 Disc Boxset]

As a drummer, it’s rather embarrassing to admit that I had never listened to Ginger Baker in my life before I began reviewing this release. I had never listened to any music by Cream or Blind Faith and didn’t even…

Anthony Phillips – Slow Dance [2 CD Edition]

Anthony Phillips has had a long and varied career. From his stint as the original guitarist for Genesis, to his instrumental-heavy Private Parts and Pieces series, to his song-centred masterworks, and even his library pieces of music composed for film…

Lene Lovich, whose work experience included providing screams for Hammer Horror Film Productions, earned her 15 minutes of fame on the back of a surprise hit single with her first release for Stiff Records. Over the course of her time…

Various Artists – We Can Work It Out: Covers of the Beatles, 1962 – 1966 [3CD Box Set]

As a reviewer, wrapping your head around new music and finding the words to explain it can be exhausting, especially if the music in question is no bueno. It helps when there are already some assurances of quality, and this…

Opeth – Damnation: 20th Anniversary Edition (Vinyl Edition)

Opeth – Damnation: 20^th Anniversary Vinyl Edition

2023 marks 20 years since Opeth released the Damnation album. At the time it was viewed by many as a big change in direction, although in essence it still contained a lot of the softer musical attributes which the band…

Peter Hammill – In A Foreign Town / Out of Water 2023

Peter Hammill is in my opinion, one of the giants of music, highly influential throughout nearly all genres with a huge catalogue, be it solo, with Van der Graaf Generator or in collaboration with other artists. These two albums, originally…

Devin Townsend – Infinity: 25^th Anniversary Edition

I struggle to believe that it’s been 25 years since Devin Townsend released this landmark album that greatly showcased his musical genius. I remember getting it as soon as it was released back in 1998, as I loved his previous…
