28/10/2019: Yes Release From A Page Bundle

YES have released a five piece box set after returning to recordings made in late 2010.

The box set features two booklets and three discs containing the four studio tracks and Live From Lyon 2009, all of which were recorded by the line-up of Chris Squire, Steve Howe, Alan White, Benoit David and Oliver Wakeman:

1. To The Moment (6:09)
2. Words on a Page (6:18)
3. From the Turn of a Card (3:24)
4. The Gift of Love (9:52)

Oliver Wakeman has personally overseen the preparation of the previously unreleased recordings which were mixed by Karl Groom and mastered by Mike Pietrini. The box and one of the booklets features new artwork by Roger Dean, and the graphic design was undertaken by Oliver Wakeman, plus the set also includes his newly written liner notes about his time in the band.

The double CD album Live From Lyon was first released in 2010 and this edition restores “Second Initial” which was previously a Japanese only bonus track. The booklet for Live From Lyon has been re-designed and expanded.

Steve Howe comments: “Good music never goes away or lays down to the commercial pressures that exist. Oliver’s compositions, “To the Moment”, “Words on a Page” and “From the Turn of a Card” demonstrate his musicality and talents, while “The Gift of Love” explores the collaborative essence of Yes, pooling ideas and then working together on its arrangement, whilst utilising all of its many themes and variations. Karl Groom and Roger Dean both contributed their skills towards making this a worthy further ‘page’ in Yes’ long and diverse musical adventures.

Oliver Wakeman continues: “Following Chris Squire’s passing, I felt that the new music we’d created, but not released, should be heard and not sit unfinished on a shelf. And with Steve, Alan and Benoit’s enthusiasm for the project, I am proud to know that this music will get to see the light of day and, hopefully, be enjoyed by YES fans as a piece of previously hidden Yes history.

Alan White adds: “I’m pleased to see a gem of YES history coming to fruition in the form of this mini box set. New songs from the past and I’m hoping we can find even more music in the archives for future releases.

The set is in stock now and exclusively available from the band’s own Burning Shed store. It cannot be bought in the shops or on Amazon. The mini-box set and a vinyl release of the new songs are exclusively available here:

23/10/2019: Steven Wilson Announces The Future Bites European Tour

Steven Wilson has announced an eight date arena tour for September 2020, including two UK shows in Nottingham and London.

“Every time I make a new album, it’s hugely important for me that it holds a unique place in my catalogue and won’t simply be more of the same. Moving into the third decade of the 21st century and my second decade as a touring solo artist, it felt like time to apply the same philosophy to the live experience. I want to challenge myself to create something that confronts my own notions (and hopefully the audience’s too) of how to present my music in a concert situation. This has become The Future Bites – a series of special events at larger venues, something on a grander and more immersive scale. I’m already hugely excited about them!”

The Future Bites – September 2020:

17/09/20: Motorpoint Arena Nottingham, UK
19/09/20: The O2, London, UK
21/09/20: Zenith Paris – La Villette, France
23/09/20: Mediolanum Forum, Milan, Italy
25/09/20: König-Pilsener-ARENA, Oberhausen, Germany
26/09/20: Sporthalle, Hamburg, Germany
28/09/20: Ziggo Dome, Amsterdam, Holland

Roine Stolt has announced revealed Iamthemorning and Rikard Sjöblom will replace Kayak on upcoming The Flower Kings European Tour following a heart attack suffered by Ton Scherpenzeel.

Stolt comments: “We bring news regarding the upcoming Flower Kings tour of December – the Dutch classic band Kayak, who was initially to be our touring partner has had to pull out, due to serious and unexpected medical conditions of main guy Ton Scherpenzeel. We are all sad about this but wish for a speedy recovery and perhaps another chance to share the stage later on. The brighter news is that we’ve managed to get the brilliant band Iamthemorning, singer Marjana Semkina and pianist Gleb Kolyadin & band, to join us in a package show that will also include a set from genius Rikard Sjöblom (Big Big Train, Beardfish). We will all play our separate sets – but there will likely be guesting and as usual the grand finale is not to be missed! We’re really looking forward to a great evening of expanding, young, vibrant ‘prog’ music. New songs from The Flower Kings brand new double album ‘Waiting For Miracles’ and bundles of classic Flower Kings and beautiful and groovy music from our new guests.

21/10/2019: Magic Pie Reveal Eirik Hanssen and Jan T. Johannessen Departures From The Band

Magic Pie have revealed the departures of vocalist/guitar player Eirik Hannssen and drummer Jan T. Johannessen from the band.

In a short statement released on the band’s Facebook page they say: “It is with regret that we announce that Eirik and JT has decided to leave Magic Pie. They have both been with the band from the very start and this is a challenging and very emotional time for the band. After close to 18 years together, this band is like a family and there will be some time to recover from this. Eirik had some life changing events some time ago, and have moved to the other side of the country – making it impossible to stay in the band. JT is going through some personal health issues and decided it was time to step down. Magic Pie would never be what we have become if not for JT and Eirik, and they will always be a central part of the Magic Pie family. We wish them both the best of luck in any future endeavors. There will be some time with healing and dealing with this, but we will be back asap.

Kim, Eirikur, Lars Petter and Erling H.”

15/10/2019: Asaf Sirkis Marks Debut on MoonJune Records With The Project Sirkis Bialas IQ and New Album Our New Earth

After 7 album sessions on MoonJune Records (2 albums with Dwiki Dharmawan, 2 with Mark Wingfield, 2 with Markus Reuter & Mark Wingfield, 1 with Dusan Jevtovic, and other 6 coming out in 2020), Israeli born and London UK based drummer Asaf Sirkis is releasing his own album Our New Earth.

The Sirkis/Bialis IQ is an on-going band, established in 2014 consisting of four musical personalities bringing their individuality and working together as a team to create new explorative-forward-looking music. The new album explores many different moods and textures using some rarely used instruments in jazz such as the church organ, waterphone, crotales, konnakol, and different vocal sounds.

With an emphasis on band interaction, Our New Earth celebrates music from both Asaf Sirkis and Sylwia Bialas, covering a wide range of influences such as contemporary classical music, Polish folk, Progressive rock, South Indian and Middle Eastern musics as well as a wide range of dynamics including soulful melodies, aerospheric sounds with strong grooves and full colour electroacoustic jazz with an ethnic touches.

Bialas comments: “I truly feel no need to take the central spot on stage (as a singer is often expected to). I am tremendously fulfilled in being part of the band, contributing to its sound, adding different colours, sharing the joy of interacting and taking risks together. There’s no greater satisfaction for me than to stand ‘inside the band’, listening to the sound created by my fellow musicians at its source, watching their body language. I feel very happy and thankful that both audience and critics recognise and accept my personal approach.

Our New Earth is the second album from the Sirkis/Bialas IQ. Both performers believe “The message behind Our New Earth is reflecting the drastic changes we are currently experiencing individually and collectively world-wide with the prevailing of technology, social media, and many other issues. We’d like to offer this music as a reflection, a wish of reconnection with nature and a kind of a prayer in music for a better world for all of us and hence the name ‘Our New Earth’“.

15/10/2019: Bent Knee Launch Video for Catch Light From New Album You Know What They Mean

Boston-based sextet Bent Knee have released their new album You Know What They Mean via InsideOutMusic. To celebrate they have launched a video for the track Catch Light;

On this album we wanted to do more with less,” explains Vince Welch (synth/guitar/production). “For ‘Catch Light’, we traded some of the more cerebral forms and rhythms we’ve used in the past for something more guttural. We’re really happy with how director Adam Peditto and producer Katie Dvorak (of The World Is A Beautiful Place & I’m No Longer Afraid To Die) captured this approach in the video as well.

Courtney Swain continues: “We were in the best place that we’ve been in. In terms of people and as a group, where I think we learned to pick our battles and just have fun writing this. So this album really portrays us as people, in addition to our music, a lot more than any of our other records. We’re a big group with a lot of different personalities and a lot of voices, but our music brings us together. On the past albums, you could hear the music, but you couldn’t really hear who we are.

You Know What They Mean is available as a Limited Edition CD Digipak, Gatefold LP + CD & as digital album, featuring the previously released single ‘Catch Light’ & artwork by Riki Nitabaru.

Track List:

1. Lansing

After recently releasing their new album, A Dawn to Fear, Cult Of Luna have now announced their return to the USA with a North American tour set for February/March 2020. Emma Ruth Rundle and Intronaut will join them as support.

A Dawn To Fear comprises eight tracks running at seventy-nine minutes. Vocalist and guitarist Johannes Perason comments: “Going into the process, we knew the album we wanted to make, an antithesis of what we’ve done before. For pretty much every album there’s been a very concrete theme. We’ve known from the start the kind of story we wanted to tell, and I didn’t want that to be the case. I’ve seen a lot of subtle changes and patterns in my own behaviour and my own thinking the last couple of years, and I wanted this to be a completely spontaneous process. I just wanted to see what came out of me, and ‘A Dawn To Fear’ is the result of that.

06/10/2019: Peter Edward “Ginger” Baker ~ RIP

Ginger Baker

It is with sadness that we reveal that Ginger Baker has died at the age of 80. In later years Ginger had suffered from a degenerative spine condition and the onset of emphysema, however it was his heart that finally was the catalyst for him to retire from live performance in 2016. Commenting at the time Ginger said: “Just seen doctor… big shock… no more gigs for this old drummer… everything is off…” further saying “Of all things I never thought it would be my heart.”

Perhaps best known as the co-founder of Cream, he also played with the Graham Bond Organisation, Blind Faith, Air Force, Hawkwind, Fela Kuti, to mention just a few from his long and varied career.

Here’s Ginger Baker with Bill Frisell and Charlie Haden from Frankfurt – 1995…

03/10/2019: Anathema Announce We’re Here Because We’re Here 10th Anniversary Tour

Anathema will celebrate the 10th Anniversary of their release We’re Here Because We’re Here by taking the album on the road for a series of exclusive shows throughout Europe in March 2020.

Danny Cavanagh comments; “We never usually do anniversary tours of particular albums, but in the case of ‘We’re Here Because We’re Here,’ which is the album that began our rebirth, we feel this is something we want to do. What I love about this album and that time in our journey is the life affirming qualities in the music. It’s an album of hope, reflection, of summer, of an intense uplifting emotion. We will do all we can to augment the trip with a never before seen light and video show to enhance the experience. Join us in the dreaming light.

Vincent Cavanagh adds; “Well, putting aside my incredulity that it has been almost 10 years, I’m really into the idea of this tour from a creative perspective. How will we play these songs live now? How will some songs have evolved in the meantime? What can we do with the visual production? It’s a great record to revisit as the themes are still as honest and personal as they’ve always been but there are more shafts of light that cut through the darkness. The plan is to do two sets: the ‘We’re Here Because We’re Here’ album in full and then a second set comprising the best stuff from the other records and maybe a brand new song or two.. Hope to see you there!

The band recently announced that they have signed to the Mascot Label Group and will be working on a new album for a 2020 release.

no-man was formed by Tim Bowness and Steven Wilson in the late 1980s and their first single Colours was released on UK independent label Probe Plus in 1990 which led to the band being managed by Talk Talk’s manager Keith Aspden and signed to One Little Indian in the UK and Epic/Sony in the US. The band’s second album Flowermouth (1994) included appearances from Robert Fripp, Jansen, Barbieri & Karn (ex-Japan) and Ian Carr. Four more progressively experimental studio albums followed between 1996 and 2008 (most notably on the Kscope label).

Love You To Bits represents a return to the band’s electronica and dance roots.
