Steve Hogarth says: “Has it really been 30 years?! Steve R tells me it’s his 40th anniversary so it’s a double celebration! It’s amazing to be in this position after all this time. We’ve added this wonderful six-piece to the band for this entire tour. They’re brilliant players, good friends, and the chemistry we have together has already spoken for itself. I thought we’d never beat that night at RAH… but there’s going to be two nights and two different RAH set lists this time, so let’s see what we, and our legendary fans can do.”

London-based independent promotion collective Chaos Theory will celebrate their 10th anniversary with the Chaos Theory Festival on Saturday 29th February 2020 at The Dome and Boston Music Room in London.

More bands have been announced today in addition to the existing line-up. Italy’s instrumentalists Zu will headline the festival with an exclusive UK performance. Chaos Theory founder Kunal Singhal comments: ‘We can’t believe how lucky we are to be able to work with so many groundbreaking musicians under one roof! Several of us at Chaos Theory have been fans of Zu for most of our lifetimes and, after their phenomenal sold out show in London last August, it’s a huge honour to present their UK exclusive performance at The Dome in February.

They’ll be joined by the UK’s psychedelic rock band Teeth of the Sea alongside Polish black-metal band Furia. Scottish post-rockers VASA will also return for their 1st London show in well over a year. Rounding off the latest announcement are Yorkshire based black-metal band Ante Inferno alongside two solo performances from Bong members Mike Vest with his Lush Worker project and David Terry. U.S. breakcore legend end.user will also perform at the official Towards Collapse takeover afterparty.

Artist and illustrator Sagui is creating the artwork and poster for the festival, which will continue to develop over the next few months as new bands are added. Kunal observes: “Sagui has taken elements of nature she considers powerful and beautiful, then fused them into a surreal blend, which is pretty much how the day of music will feel at 10 Years Of Chaos! I’m really looking forward to seeing how it evolves.

Ante Inferno
Lush Worker (Mike Vest, BONG)

24/09/2019: Van der Graaf Generator Announce 2020 UK Tour Dates

Seven years since they last appeared on stage, Van Der Graaf Generator have announced dates for a tour of the UK in May 2020. The shows are taking place 50 years on from the band’s first UK album release The Least We Can Do Is Wave to Each Other.

The band have said they will not be playing their longer pieces, focusing instead on sets consisting of shorter works both old and new. “The intention here, as with all the material, is not to attempt to recreate the exact sound and style of the original but rather to tap into its spirit and reinvent it in a twenty-first century form. Clearly, VDGG continue to push forward, acknowledging that they are a group with a certain history, but also stating the case that they are an emphatically modern one.”

Peter Hammill comments: “Here we are again, then. Fifty years after the release of The Least We Can Do, how exciting – and daunting – it is to once again step out into the glorious chaos of VDGG live performance. Yes!

Guy Evans adds: “OK, so the melting drum kit at the last VDGG soundcheck did cue pause for thought. Thankfully both it and yer sticks man have re-solidified. I’m so very up for this!”

Hugh Banton comments: “It’s time once more to hang up my progressive techie lab-coat and entice the progressive organist back to his seat, stage left. I’m eagerly anticipating exploring the new 2020s-styled sound world of this latest VDGG incarnation!”

Tour Dates: May 2020
Sunday 3rd May – Edinburgh Queen’s Hall
Monday 4th May – Manchester Bridgewater Hall
Tuesday 5th May – Birmingham Symphony Hall
Thursday 7th May – Bath The Forum
Friday 8th May – London The Palladium

24/09/2019: Bernie Shaw & Dale Collins Release New Album Too Much Information

Bernie Shaw, lead singer of Uriah Heep, and Dale Collins, a multi-instrumentalist and producer from Canada have released a new solo album called Too Much Information.

This is Bernie’s first album project outside of Uriah Heep and is the result of two long term friends working together in bands when Bernie lived in Canada. The duo worked on the songs many years ago but have now re-recorded from scratch all their songs together to create this new studio album.

Shaw comments: “This album has been a long time in the making as Uriah Heep still occupies almost 200 days of my year! But we’ve done it! I’m very proud of the end result. Working from two sides of the world is not an easy task, but the power and the energy of these songs shine through. I can’t wait for the reaction from both the Heep fans and beyond! Rock on!”

The album is available now as a 6-panel digipak CD, 180-gram LP, download and on streaming platforms.

20/09/2019: Damanek Reveal Details of Third Studio Album Making Shore for 2020 Release

Guy Manning has revealed a third DAMANEK album to be called Making Shore is being recorded for a planned 2020 release.

Guy comments: “as the first two releases ‘ON TRACK’ and ‘IN FLIGHT’ both implied movement and travel (by Rail and Air) in their names….I was leaning to a more Sea/Water-centric title this time (but 2 words again…isn’t branding wonderful)“. He continues: “This new set of material sees us once more return to ecological concerns/issues and of course from a narrative empathetic POV, placing the listener in the heart of the story…naturally.

More than 80 minutes of initial demos have already been written. Working track titles have been provisionally assigned along with the ideas behind them:

1. A Mountain of Sky (about the solitude and aloofness of Mount Everest)
2. A Crown of Thorns (about the decline of the Great Barrier Reef)
3. Back2Back (looks at the concern around Global arising from over population)
4. Reflections on Copper (a observation on the debilitation brought through Dementia)
5. In Deep Blue [Sea Songs Part One] (a tale of personal fear overcome!…)
6. Noon Day Candles (an appeal to the World Stage about child hunger and a belief that each and every voice makes a difference in addressing the issue)
7. Self-Composed (an introspective personal look at my own song writing)
8. Americana (narrates the impact of Climate change on a fictional US farm)
9. Oculus – this is an epic, Gothic tale dealing with the perils of inter-dimensional travel … it is a bit involved, but the story will unfold!!!

Guy teases: “Marek, Dan, Sean & I will be returning once again with a supporting cast of superb musicians, some you already know, some new, some well known…have I made that intriguing?

No live dates have been planned for 2020 but the band are looking ahead to 2021 to try and get some shows arranged.

09/09/2019: The Dark Element To Release Second Studio Album Songs The Night Sings

The Dark Element featuring vocalist Anette Olzon (ex-Nightwish) and Finnish guitarist and songwriter Jani Liimatainen (Insomnium, Cain’s Offering) are releasing a second studio album entitled Songs The Night Sings and continues where their self-titled 2017 debut left off.

Anette comments: “It’s a thrill that we’re releasing another album and for me it was even easier to record this one since me and Jani now know each other really well. For me, this album is bigger and better and I believe everyone who liked our debut will really like this one too. All I can say is that I already long to do another. Hep hep!

Jani adds: “I think the album is very heavy, but still hyper melodic, and this time we are even exploring new musical territories we didn’t on the previous album. Now that me and Anette have one album together under our belts, we have found the style we want to pursue and also the ideal way of working together. Given all this, I think it’s safe to say that with this album you’ll get even more of what made the first album so good, only it’s bigger, better and bolder!

The Dark Element made their live debut in June 2018 at the Sweden Rock Festival. They also toured Japan and performed at the Frontiers Rock Sweden festival in October. Tour dates for the new album are in the planning stages.

Vocalist and keyboardist Einar Solberg comments: ““Below” was the first song written for the “Pitfalls” album and it was composed in a period of denial of what was to come. It was a very spontaneous song, made first with only piano and vocals. “Below” is a very emotional and melancholic track, and it means a lot to me personally – both musically and lyrically. Large cinematic string arrangements, electronic elements, very acoustic and organic parts – all combined. Very epic but at the same time very fragile!”

Pitfalls was recorded with David Castillo at Ghostward Studios (Opeth, Katatonia) and mixed by Adam Noble (Placebo, Biffy Clyro, Nothing But Thieves, Deaf Havana). The cover artwork is a painting from Indonesian artist Elicia Edijanto.

02/09/2019: Ray Alder To Release Solo Album What The Water Wants with InsideOut Music

Ray Alder, lead vocalist with Fates Warning, has signed a worldwide deal with InsideOutMusic for his solo releases. His first album What The Water Wants is scheduled for release in October 2019.

Alder comments: “Hi everyone! I am so happy to announce that I have signed a deal with InsideOutMusic for my solo project and the debut album “What The Water Wants”. I want to thank InsideOutMusic for giving me the opportunity to record and share this album with the world. For the last year I have been writing with Mike Abdow, (Fates Warning touring guitarist), guitarist/bassist Tony Hernando (Lords Of Black) and my longtime friend Craig Anderson (Ignite) on drums. The album was mixed by Simone Mularoni (Rhapsody, Michael Romeo, DGM, etc.), who worked tirelessly with me to give this project the great sound we felt it deserved. I have had the ideas for a while but never had the time to actually sit down and write. But since Fates Warning had taken a break from writing and touring I finally had the chance to assemble the album. I hope you all enjoy it as much as we did writing and recording it!

The album includes 10 melodic and versatile songs created with assistance from guitarists Mike Abdow (Fates Warning touring member) and Tony Hernando (Lords Of Black) as well as drummer Craig Anderson (Ignite, Crescent Shield). The album was mixed by Simone Mularoni (Rhapsody, Michael Romeo, DGM) and will be released worldwide on 18th October 2019.

Track List
1. Lost
2. Crown Of Thorns
3. Some Days
4. Shine
5. Under Dark Skies
6. A Beautiful Lie
7. The Road
8. Wait
9. What The Water Wanted
10. The Killing Floor
11. The Road (Acoustic Version) * Bonus Track

What The Water Wants will be available as limited first-pressing Digipak CD with a bonus track (An acoustic version of “The Road”) and as LP on 180gr. vinyl with the full album on CD as bonus.
