28/06/2019: Magnum Announce Bassist Alan Barrow to Leave the Band
In a brief message posted to their website, magnum have announced that bassist Alan Barrow is leaving the band with immediate effect, to be replaced by Dennis Ward. The message reads –
We want to share with all you guys the news that Al has decided to leave the band. He has been finding it increasingly difficult to spend so much time away from home now that he lives in America.
We’re all going to miss him very much, not just what he brought musically but his company and character. His tireless efforts in helping with putting our albums together, social media, website, and promotional literature have always been massively appreciated, especially when we didn’t pay him for them (JK)!!
We wholeheartedly wish him the best in all his future projects both musical and personal. We’ll be keeping in touch, and for the time being he will still be helping out on Facebook.
Stepping in to his shoes we are pleased to announce that Dennis Ward (Pink Cream 69, ) will be joining us effective immediately. We’ve already been working hard with him on the new album – due for release early 2020, with artwork by Rodney Matthews. We’re all very excited by this next chapter in the Great Adventure that is Magnum.
Al has recorded a personal video message to you all we hope you enjoy it.
Thank you for your continued support and hope to see on tour next year.

25/06/2019: Lonely Robot – Under Stars… An Evening With John Mitchell and Friends
Lonely Robot, the project of producer, guitarist and singer/songwriter John Mitchell (Kino, Frost*, Arena, It Bites), released the third album in their trilogy Under Stars in April and celebrated by joining forces with Space Rocks for a special launch event that saw a playback of the album with exclusive visual accompaniment.
Now they are pleased to announce that they are holding another special event on Tuesday 16th July at The Screen on The Green, Islington, London. Fans will get a chance to hear the album in full, with specially-commissioned CGI films accompanying each track on the big screen. John will also take part in a Q&A session with Space Rocks co-founder Alexander Milas to discuss the influence of space and sci-fi on Lonely Robot’s trilogy of albums. Comedian Rowland Rivron will host a general Q&A, covering John’s multiple bands and projects, with plenty of opportunity for questions from fans. Everybody who attends will also receive a signed poster.
Tickets and details are available here. The album once again features drums by long-time collaborator Craig Blundell (Steven Wilson), plus bass contributions from Steve Vantsis (Fish). All other instrumentation on the album is performed by Mitchell himself. John comments: “It is the final part in the astronaut trilogy, and was recorded over an intensive month and a half period. This time I wanted to reference my love of 80s synthwave pop a little more – so beware the 808! The title is derived from the belief that we as humans spend far too much time not noticing the beauty around us and far too much time tethered to technology.”

24/06/2019: Iamthemorning Release Ghost of a Story From Their Forthcoming New Album The Bell
Iamthemorning’s Russian duo pianist Gleb Kolyadin and vocalist Marjana Semkina have premiered the first single to be taken from their forthcoming album The Bell, due for release on Kscope on 2nd August 2019.
Marjana comments that Ghost Of A Story “starts the second part of the song cycle that is The Bell, and we decided to launch it with a brighter note to have a bigger contrast with all what comes after. It’s a song about awakening, reinterpreting and questioning yourself and the world and looking for deeper meanings. It’s a song about how pain dims with time – about the fact that in the end, every tragedy that we suffer through is just a drop in the ocean of suffering of men – that we survive anyway. “Nothing feels real, these scars won’t heal – Nothing’s worth tears, it was alright from very start”
A modern blend of rock, classical and folk, The Bell makes use of 19th Century song cycles – a style established by Schubert – to tell 10 individual stories. Marjana explains: “The Bell is divided into two parts but each song is a story in its own right, all of them are fuelled by human cruelty and pain caused by it. Cruelty is the central theme of the album – together with all the different ways we respond to it and cope with it. This album is multi-layered and is, in many ways, a journey inwards, taking us inside of a mind of a person suffering from abuse or neglect or open hostility of the society or a specific person. Aesthetically, the album is based on themes taken from Victorian England’s art and culture, but more in a way of turning our attention to the fact that at its core, humankind isn’t making much progress in terms of emotional maturity.”
The Bell was recorded in March 2019 across Russia, the UK and Canada in several studios: Mosfilm in Moscow; Lendoc and Red Wave in St Petersburg; Noatune in London; The Studio at Sunbeams, Penrith; and Union Sound Company in Toronto. The album features the track “Blue Sea” which featured in demo form on the band’s studio film Ocean Sounds.
The album’s cover artwork was created by collaborator Constantine Nagishkin. The imagery on the cover “is a safety coffin bell – it’s a 19th century idea born from people’s obsessive fear of being buried alive, having been provoked by a lot of press attention to supposed cases of premature burials across the country. and the fact that Edgar Allan Poe frightened many readers by vividly describing the premature burial phenomenon in his short stories. One of the inventions to escape such a terrifying ordeal was a so called “safety coffin” that existed in many different configurations, including the one that had a bell attached to the gravestone with a thread that was attached to it and went all the way underground into the coffin so that the when the poor soul awoke and on realizing he’s been buried alive, could ring to let the people outside know what has happened. Although the idea is a bit morbid I feel there is hope in the artwork too – no matter how low you are or desperate you think your situation is, you can still call for help, but more than that you have to call for help if you need it”
The Bell will be released on CD in a digi sleeve, a gatefold LP & digitally. 21/06/2019: THE SHAKING SENSATIONS Release New Album How Are We To Fight The Blight? on 4th October via Pelagic Records
Copenhagen-based instrumental 5-piece The Shaking Sensations return with a new album How Are We To Fight The Blight? on Pelagic Records. The new release is a follow up to their critically acclaimed 2013 album Start Stop Worrying. and will be available from 4th October 2019.
The band have expanded their lineup through the addition of a second drummer, allowing them to take a different approach to the rhythm section and develop an unconventional take on instrumental rock music.
Following their hiatus in 2013, the new album demonstrates greater emphasis on reflection, growth and maturity. The tracking of the album took place in Copenhagen at two different studios. Main tracks were recorded ‘live’ in a room that could accommodate two fully mic’ed drumkits and their individual characteristics, reverb and sound – in the same room, at the same time. Anders Haaning has co-produced the album, which was then mixed and mastered by Magnus Lindberg of Cult of Luna.

20/06/2019: Scott Henderson to Release Guitar Trio Instrumental Album People Mover
Guitar virtuoso Scott Henderson will release an instrumental album written for a guitar trio entitled People Mover on 1st July 2019.
Scott comments: “The music has a lot of interplay due to a busy touring schedule with bassist Romain Labaye and drummer Archibald Ligonniere. I’d say this album is a bit more harmonic than ‘Vibe Station,’ and the rhythm section plays a bigger role in the music. The challenge was to come up with new tones and effects I haven’t used before, since like ‘Vibe Station,’ the songs are layered with multi guitar tracks.”
The new album combines elements of jazz, rock, funk and blues. In a recent interview, Scott says: “My music isn’t for purists, that’s for sure, and I’m very thankful for my fans who are obviously open-minded and share my love for many different styles of music.”
Scott will be on tour in July 2019 in Europe, September in South America, and October in Asia.

After a three year break, Polish instrumental post-metal band Tides From Nebula return with their fifth studio album From Voodoo to Zen. This will be their first album as a trio and is scheduled to be released on 20th September 2019 via Long Branch Records (SPV) and Mystic Production.
Guitarist Maciej Karbowski comments: “It seems that being a three piece made us work harder and challenged us to write better music. I’m pretty sure this is one of the reasons the album ended up sounding so rich and epic.” He continues: “Musically and visually this new record is a sidestep for us, which came subconsciously. We just followed our gut feeling and as we were recording in our own recording studio, we could work on every small detail and I am sure that this album will develop with every listen. We are super curious about the listener’s reaction.”

13/06/2019: Thank You Scientist share new single ~ Swarm
Ahead of this Friday’s official release date Thank You Scientist have shared their new single Swarm, taken from their forthcoming 84-minute full length album, Terraformer. Speaking about the new single, the band says, “Swarm is a song about reconciling with the fact that every small decision you’ve made is responsible for where you are presently, and the endless obsession over the what if’s.”
Guitarist Tom Monda about the album: “This album probably features some of Sal’s most personal lyrics, juxtaposed with some far reaching and topical stuff that is new for us. There are conceptual threads linking the music and lyrics but we prefer that the listeners discover and interpret them on their own. Terraforming in really general terms is taking a planet or some type of celestial body and making it inhabitable for humans. I thought this was a fitting metaphor for the band, in terms of the changes we had gone through in the past two years. I felt totally creatively renewed, and I think scope of the album speaks to that.”
Along with their appearance at this year’s ArcTanGent festival the band will play a series of UK dates during August…
14/08/19: Albert’s, Nottingham
15/08/19: Flapper, Birmingham
16/08/19: ArcTanGent Festival, Bristol

12/06/2019: Tom Slatter Announces New Album Demon on Bad Elephant Music
Tom Slatter has announced his sixth album Demon, to be released with Bad Elephant Music, is now available for pre-order from Bandcamp. The album “is a set of deeply personal songs, with lyrics about wizards, tentacles, murderers and demons.”
Slatter comments: “Wizards is a song that has been in my live set for a couple of years, first as an acoustic song and then with the Tom Slatter Band. It’s a song about drunkard wizards trying to fix their town through magic. But it is also a personal song. It’s about how I felt when I changed career from teaching – a job that was deeply destructive to my mental health – to the world of charity, and the place I moved to at the same time. It’s about the joy of having people request my songs, about singalong choruses and family and also, yes, about urban magic and drunk inner-city dryads.” But, he is quick to add, “it is also about family and history and my actual real life.”

11/06/2019: Rise Twain Sign to InsideOut Music for Release of Self-Titled Debut Album
InsideOutMusic are pleased to announce the signing of Philadelphia-based duo Rise Twain to the label, for the release of their self-titled debut album on the 6th September 2019. The union of Brett William Kull (producer, audio engineer, and member of Echolyn, Grey Eye Glances, and Francis Dunnery’s New Progressives) and J.D. Beck (The Scenic Route, Beck-Fields, author & playwright) bring their collective years of experience together of this album.
The band comments: “This entire album has been a serendipitous occurrence. From the beginning writing process to the final mixes and masters, we have experienced fortunate moments that have given our endeavor a momentum all its own. Meeting Thomas Waber from InsideOut Music is an example of this. Like the writing of the songs, signing with the label felt easy and natural to do. Thomas and the staff have been wonderfully helpful and active in promoting the energy and momentum of what we started. The songs carry this force in them. You’ll feel it from the first note of the album to the last, whether listening with headphones, lights dim, or in a car with the windows open and alive. Check this music out!”
Talking of how the duo came together in 2007: “I produced an album for J.D.’s original band, The Scenic Route. They were a rocky, progressive kind of band, like a Jeff Buckley kind of thing. I was immediately drawn to his vocals. He’s such a strong singer.” Kull says he and Beck immediately hit it off, what he describes as an “inevitable connection.”
Adds Beck, “I just knew I had to work with Brett on a higher level. When I came in to cut the vocals on the Scenic Route album, the way we worked together…some people you just gel with, and then some people you have a barrier with. Brett and I gelled.” They spoke of one day collaborating on their own project – and now the result will shortly be released.
RISE TWAIN are:
J.D. Beck: Piano, lead and backing vocals
Brett William Kull: Guitars, bass, keys, percussion, lead and backing vocals

The official illustrated history of Jethro Tull, The Ballad Of Jethro Tull, will be published in November – and Ian Anderson confirms it’ll contain a disc of new material.

The first, ‘The Ballad of Jethro Tull’ is a narrative poem written and read by Ian Anderson over a unique and original mix of classic Tull music, produced by Anderson himself – and named after the title of the book. The new 7” single will be exclusive to the 500-copy limited run ‘Signature Edition’, each copy signed by Ian, and encased in a hand-made box containing two art prints specially commissioned for the book from renowned artist Peter Klucik, who also created the cover design for the book.

06/06/2019: Magenta to Release Limited Edition of the 2006 Classic Home
Rob Reed comments:
“During the preparation for the Magenta 20th Anniversary show in Newbury, we decided to include a large selection from our HOME album was has always been underperformed. Having to recreate the tracks, meant having to re visit the multi tracks which were in a bit of a mess.
Not being able to resist a ‘tinker’ with the songs, I ended up re-working the multi-track. I solved some problems in the arrangements, and added fresh dynamics and colours. I Kept what was good about the original – the vocals which are amazing, for instance – but re-working the backing tracks. We added some new things, and then took away anything that did not earn its keep from the original mixes. We were also very lucky to have Pete Jones (Tiger Moth Tales) on hand to play saxophone on the track “Moving On”, like he did in Newbury. The result I think is a more dynamic and atmospheric interpretation of what we looking to achieve.
I hope you enjoy..”

03/06/2019: ‘Unsustainable’ Spiral Key Call It A Day
Spiral Key have reluctantly announced the band has now come to an end. A short statement on their Facebook page reads:
“It is with heavy hearts that we have to announce that Spiral Key has become unsustainable for us, and will cease activities.
We’re immensely proud of what we’ve achieved over the last seven years: two album releases, including our most recent ‘An Error of Judgement’; many great gigs; lots of good times with good friends.
We’d like to thank everyone who bought one of our albums, or came to one of our shows; Chris Allan and Dan Carter, for playing with us these last few years; and all the people who’ve supported us on this journey.
“At the end of the tracks, where our lights fade to black””

01/06/2019: Weedpecker Announce Line Up Departures
Weedpecker have announced the departure of founding member Bartek (Guitar), drummer Kuks and bassist Karol.
The statement reads:
We have a very important statement for you about significant changes in Weedpecker. Me (Piotr) and Bartek decided to take our separate music paths. The fact that we are brothers, made this choice even more difficult for us. Bartek was a member of Weedpecker from the very beginning, he recorded with us all the albums, played countless gigs and rehearsals. He is a composer of such pieces as Embrace or Lazy Boy and The Temple of Wonders.
Bartek, my beloved brother, thank You with all my heart for all the years together. Your contribution to this band has been enormous and you will always be a member of Weedpecker. I wish you a lot of success in your new art. I am convinced, that soon we will all hear about your new cool band.
Under these circumstances, Weedpecker is saying goodbye to Kuks and Karol. They are close friends with Bartek and will keep playing together. I am sure that new project which they will create together, will be perfect.
Karol and Kuks, dear boys, thanks that you’ve put up with me – the old stoner grandfather – for so long. At every gig you gave your best on the stage. I am really grateful to you for all the time spent together, and again, thank you with all my heart.
Unfortunately, we must cancel Weedpecker’s tour in France and Germany. 😞 I would like to strongly apologize to all the organizers and assure that we will be back as soon as possible.
So what happens to Weedpecker now?
Something must end for something new to come. The new band members are already chosen and started working hard. We’ll give you more details soon. The plan is the same as usual. We will record the next album. You can be sure it’s gonna happen! Stay tuned!
A lot of love for all of you who support this band.
