30/06/15: Riverside reveal artwork, track listing and street date for “Love, Fear And The Time Machine
Last month we reported extensive European dates for Poland’s Riverside – reads more HERE along with the list of shows.

Having just played a first post-studio live-show as part of the Metal Hammer Festival / Prog Edition in Kattowice, Poland together with Dream Theater this past weekend, polish prog masters Riverside are pleased to announce the first details for their much anticipated upcoming studio album.

Entitled “Love, Fear and the Time Machine”, the band’s sixth studio long play album will be released via InsideOut Music on September 4th, 2015, feature cover artwork by long time design-partner Travis Smith / Seempieces (Katatonia, Opeth, Nevermore, etc.) and contain the following track listing:

30/06/15: Operation: Mindcrime release debut studio album in September
Geoff Tate’s Operation: Mindcrime will release, The Key, the band’s debut on 18th September 2015 and through Frontiers Music. Today sees the release of an audio taster…

Named after QUEENSRŸCHE’s epic concept album from 1988, “Operation: Mindcrime”, Tate’s new band features John Moyer (DISTURBED), drummers Simon Wright (AC/DC, DIO) and Brian Tichy (WHITESNAKE, OZZY OSBOURNE), keyboardist Randy Gane (MYTH), and guitarists Kelly Gray (QUEENSRYCHE 1998 – 2001, 2012 – 2014) and Scott Moughton. 28/06/15: Chris Squire – RIP
Chris SquireThe Progressive Aspect join the numerous tributes being paid to Chris Squire, the founding member of Yes, who passed away today and a little over a month after announcing that he was suffering from a rare form of leukaemia.

The official Yes website posted the following statement:

“It’s with the heaviest of hearts and unbearable sadness that we must inform you of the passing of our dear friend and Yes co-founder, Chris Squire. Chris peacefully passed away last night in Phoenix Arizona. We will have more information for you soon.”

27/06/15: Aoidh to play two shows in the UK
Japanese duo Aoidh featuring Takashi guitarist Aramaki (Outer Limits) and pianist Chihiro Owada (Uzu), will play two shows, this August, jointly with a London based soprano singer Erica Shomada.

26/06/15: Mike Vennart releases animated video of Operate
The track comes from his solo debut album The Demon Joke, which was released earlier this week – read TPA’s review of HERE.

25/06/15: Goblin Rebirth stream forthcoming album
Goblin Rebirth featuring original Goblin members Fabio Pignatelli and Agostino Marangolo plus Aidan Zammit, Giacomo Anselmi and Danilo Cherni will release their self titled debut on 29th June 2015 on Relapse. Ahead of the release the band have streamed, via Stereogum, in its entirety. Here’s a taster:

Australian alternative progressive rockers Caligula’s Horse have signed with InsideOut Music for the release of their third album.

25/06/15: Anthony Phillips’ Private Parts & Pieces compiled
Ant Phillips2The re-release of Ant’s back catalogue by Esoteric Recordings continues with Private Parts & Pieces I – IV, a five CD deluxe clamshell box set containing the first four albums in the Private Parts & Pieces series (Private Parts & Pieces, Back To The Pavilion, Antiques and A Catch At The Tables) together with Private Parts & Extra Pieces, an additional 18-track CD of previously unreleased material recorded between 1975 and 1983.

19/06/15: Tiger Moth Tales to release new studio album
Pete Jones, the man behind Tiger Moth Tales, reveals that following on from the well received Cocoon album, released last year, that he will follow this up with his latest offering, Story Tellers – Part 1 . Today sees the release of a teaser video…

19/06/15: Theo Travis album update
We reported in April news of Theo Travis‘ new album to be released on 6th July 2015, through the Esoteric Antenna label. Transgression was recorded in January at Koolworld Studio in Luton, with Steven Wilson behind the controls…

Theo describes the album as “progressive jazz” and also includes an instrumental version of a track I co-wrote with Andy Tillison – the title track from the Tangent album A Place In The Queue.

19/06/15: New studio album from John Hackett
Esoteric Antenna have revealed the release of a new studio album with John Hackett in the early Autumn, featuring Steve Hackett and Nick Magnus. More details to follow soon.

18/06/15: Tim Bowness announces UK dates and reveals new video
Tim Bowness and band (Porcupine Tree’s Colin Edwin, Michael Bearpark, Stephen Bennett and Sanguine Hum’s Andrew Booker) will be playing live on Tuesday 25th August at The Louisiana in Bristol and Wednesday 26th August at The Boston Music Room in London. Support comes from Improvizone (using members of the Tim Bowness Band), Andrew Booker’s acclaimed East London-based Ambient-Improv collective.

17/06/15: Premiata Forneria Marconi (PFM) announce UK date in November
PFM will perform a one off show at London’s Dingwalls in November. Further details of these and many more concerts can be found in TPA’s UK Gig Guide.

17/06/15: The Samurai Of Prog near completion of fourth album
The Samurai Of Prog‘s fourth album, Lost And Found, will be released later this summer through the Seacrest Oy record label. Lost And Found is the follow-up to the well received and critically acclaimed The Imperial Hotel released last year. Read TPA’s review of the album HERE.

The Samurai Of Prog once again features Marco Bernard [Rickenbacker bass], Kimmo Pörsti [drums and percussion], Steve Unruh [violin, flute and vocals], along with Stefan Renström [keyboards], Alan Shikoh [guitars] and Chip Gremillion [additional keyboards]. The stunning artwork is once again from renowned artist Ed Unitsky.

17/06/15: Spock’s Beard reveal The Oblivion Particle album artwork and more
In April we revealed that Spock’s Beard would be releasing their latest studio album towards the end of August 2015 – followed by a series of European tour dates. Today the band announce that their twelfth studio album The Oblivion Particle is set for release on the 21st August 2015 – through InsideOut Music.

17/06/15: Songs for Tibet II – a tribute album release marking the Dalai Lama’s 80th birthday
To celebrate “the Dalai Lama’s philosophy of peace, non-violence and compassion — as well as His Holiness’s 80th birthday”, Sting, Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush, Elbow and more will contribute tracks to the Art of Peace Foundation ‘s Songs for Tibet II, a tribute album.

Organizers say they’ll be announcing a full track list shortly, but tell Rolling Stone that the tracks will be a combination of unreleased versions of previously released songs or new recordings. Proceeds from the album will benefit initiatives designed to spread the teachings of the Dalai Lama, and promote and preserve the culture of Tibet.

16/06/15: Seven Steps To The Green Door new album due in September
German progressive rockers Seven Steps To The Green Door reveal details of their fourth album, Fetish, to be released through PPR (Progressive Promotions Records) Label on 11th September 2015.

Clocking in at just under eighty minutes of, Fetish, features guest appearances by Arno Menses (Subsignal), Daniel Mash (Machine, UPF, The Tangent) and Steve Unruh (UPF) amongst others.

15/06/15: The Room release single taken from their forthcoming album
Today sees the release of the digital single Carrie, the first offering from The Room since the band signed to Bad Elephant Music.

“There is a rich musical heritage at the heart of The Room’s progressive tinged rock – a combination of impressive musicianship, catchy hooks and thought-provoking lyrics. Formed in 2010 by Steve Anderson (guitar), Steve Checkley (keyboards), Andy Rowe (bass) and Martin Wilson (vocals), The Room released their acclaimed debut album, ‘Open Fire’, in December 2012. They were joined by drummer Chris York in 2013. A second album, as yet untitled, will be released by BEM in late 2015.”

15/06/15: Public Service Broadcasting announce second run of UK dates
Public Service Broadcasting confirm a second run of The Race For Space dates later this year, taking in some cities we weren’t able to visit on our last run, as well as our biggest show to date at Brixton Academy on 29 November 2015.

12/06/15: Jazz legend Ornette Coleman RIP
Ornette Coleman, one of the most influential and innovative figures in jazz history, died yesterday at the age of 85. He is reported to have suffered a heart attack. Tributes continue to flood in for one of jazz’ most free thinking musicians.

“He was one of the major innovators of the free jazz movement of the 1960s, a term he invented with the name of an album. Coleman’s timbre was easily recognized: his keening, crying sound drew heavily on blues music. He was awarded a MacArthur Fellowship (genius grant) in 1994. His album Sound Grammar received the 2007 Pulitzer Prize for music.” SOURCE: Wikipedia.

11/06/15: Orphaned Land reveal unplugged tour 2015
Orphaned Land banner
Along with a number of Festival dates previously announced, Israeli progressive metal/folk metal band Orphaned Land will tour Europe performing an entire acoustic show and will be accompanied by the Stimmgewalt Choir for these shows. The twenty five date tour includes 2 UK shows in London and Manchester in October.

11/06/15: Dream The Electric Sleep announce new album
Dream The Electric SleepProgressive rock trio Dream The Electric Sleep (DTES) are currently in the studio recording the follow-up to 2014’s Heretics. The band will be working alongside Grammy Award winning producer Nick Raskulinecz (Rush, Foo Fighters, Mastodon) at Rock Falcon studios in Nashville, TN.

Regarding the band’s third full-length album, vocalist/guitarist Matt Page says, “The material came together faster than we imagined, with a real passion and vision. The songs seem to capture something we have been striving for as a band since our first release. They feel more focused and tighter, with equal creative contributions from all three of us.”

On working with Raskulinecz, Page says, “Nick has produced some of the top rock albums of the past decade, and we are thrilled to be working and collaborating with him. We knew we needed to bring a creative visionary on board to really push us and the material to new places. We can’t wait to begin this creative process with Nick at the helm.”

The album is set for a Spring 2016 release.

10/06/15: Yes – details emerge for 27 date European tour in 2016
Details are coming through for a major European tour for Yes in 2016 – one which see the band perform the Fragile and Drama albums in their entirety. The UK-European 2016 tour visits twenty seven cities across Europe and includes ten dates in the UK. No official posting has appeared on the Yes website as yet.

10/06/15: Ian Anderson to play new songs on The Rock Opera shows later this year
Ian AndersonProg Magazine report that Ian Anderson says he’ll showcase five new tracks on his Jethro Tull – The Rock Opera shows later this year.

He previously reported the theatrical presentation would feature Tull classics including Heavy Horses, Farm On The Freeway, A New Day Yesterday, The Witch’s Promise and Locomotive Breath. And he says while the vast majority of material will be recognisable to fans, there will be a few surprises.

10/06/15: Effa Lente to release debut album
Composed and performed entirely by classically trained multi-instrumentalist David Alfred Reilly (Graveyard Dirt) – The Effa Lente Configuration: Parts 1-4 will be released in July 2015. Although a four part suite, the music is presented as a single, continuous forty four minute instrumental track.

“Sounding like a cross between a prog band and a film score, it combines the influence of groups such as King Crimson, Muse, Opeth and Queen, along with composers like Yann Tiersen, Nils Frahm and Frank Zappa, to create a unique musical journey.”

09/06/15: Marco Minnemann streams Miami – taken from his solo album Celebration
We reported back in May that Marco Minnemann would follow up to his 2014 debut album Eeps, (read TPA’s review HERE, with his second solo release Celebration in June 2015.

Celebration is on sale now via Lazy Bones Recordings. The first 1000 orders will be signed by Marco.

08/06/15: WAKEmanFest – three day event
Rick Wakeman announces details of WAKEmanFEST which takes place at The Boston Gliderdrome in Lincolnshire over three days – Friday 30th October, Saturday 31st October and Sunday 1st November.

The event, now in the latter stages of planning, is “the brainchild of Rob Ayling from Gonzo and was conceived as a three day event that would revolve around people I have worked with and my own band, The English Rock Ensemble of course.”

07/06/15: The Exploding Eyes Orchestra reveal animated video for Two-Zero 13
What started as a pastime for Jess and the Ancient Ones guitarist and songwriter Thomas Corpse has morphed into an actual band: The Exploding Eyes Orchestra. With a lineup consisting of five out of seven Jess and the Ancient Ones members, the band’s debut album, simply titled I, will hit the streets on June 15th via Svart Records.

Created by Costin Chioreanu (Ulver, Opeth) the animated video for new track ‘Two-Zero 13’ is a showcase for The Exploding Eyes Orchestra’s laid back and soulful take on classic rock…

The album is culled from lengthy recording sessions held in Kuopio, Finland in the winter of 2013 and 2014, and these sessions also produced another album’s worth of excellent material, which will see the light of day on the next release, II, in the spring of 2016. SOURCE: I Like Press

06/06/15: Steven Wilson Los Angeles show to be streamed live online on 13th June 2015
Steven WilsonSteven Wilson has teamed up with Live Nation and Yahoo to live-stream his June 13th concert from Los Angeles. This is one of 365 concerts to stream over a 12-month period on the Live Nation Channel on Yahoo Screen.

Fans can tune in on June 13th at 8:00pm PT here:

05/06/15: Cherry Red Records reveal debut album from This Oceanic Feeling
This Oceanic FeelingUniversal Mind will be released on 17th July 2015 through Cherry Red Records – the debut release from This Oceanic Feeling, a “new cinematic three piece band” featuring singer/songwriter and producer Chris Braide along with bassist Lee Pomeroy and drummer Ash Soan.

“The album features 12 songs about dualism and ego death. Recorded during winter 2014 and featuring some of the most dynamic musicianship you are likely to hear this year.

04/06/15: Muse release first video from Drones
Muse have released JFK + Defector taken from their forthcoming Drones album, scheduled for release on Monday (08/06/15)…

The video begins with ‘JFK’, the 0.54 second long interlude track that precedes ‘Defector’ on the album’s track listing. ‘JFK’ features an extract from a speech made by former US president John F Kennedy in 1961 to the American Newspaper Publishers Association.

05/06/15: Soen announce European tour dates
Swedish prog masters Soen who initially formed in 2004 and consisting of former Opeth drummer Martin Lopez, ex-Death, Testament and Sadus bassist Steve DiGiorgio, Willowtree vocalist Joel Ekelöf and guitarist Kim Platbarzdis will undertake a short European tour in October – including one UK date in London.

04/06/15: ‘Tres Caballeros’ European Tour starts in November 2015
The Aristocrats are set to return to Europe with their unique brand of instrumental rock-fusion, as part of their world tour promoting their upcoming third studio album Tres Caballeros.

The Tres Caballeros world tour, which starts with eight weeks across North America, will continue to Europe with a first leg in November and December 2015. A second leg, scheduled for early 2016, will be announced in the coming months. 03/06/15: Curved Air announce 45th Anniversary Concert
Curved Air banner
Curved Air will perform a special concert under the title “From Air Conditioning to North Star” and have promised to perform Air Conditioning in its entirety for the first time ever!

02/06/15: Consider The Source release the second instalment of World War Trio
Formed in 2004, Consider the Source features Gabriel Marin on fretless double-neck guitar, bassist John Ferrara, and drummer/percussionist Jeff Mann. The band release their second outing, World War Trio (Parts II & III) today.

“World War Trio (Parts II & III) is the second instalment of Consider The Source’s epic grand vision. Following the dense, nearly 24 minute, five part composition that comprised World War Trio (Part I), this double album begins with the trio of masterful technicians’ progressive rock, metal and jazz foundation, then draw from Middle Eastern and Indian traditions- balancing shifting moods and tempos, cerebral and emotional jabs and intellectual and primal pursuits- into a dynamic audio experience that has been described by one critic as “the soundtrack to an alien invasion”.”

Austrian progressive rock bands, Blank Manuskript and Mindspeak will hit the road for a five-show tour in South Eastern Europe from June 10th to June 14th. The dates are below. Blank Manuskript is putting final touches on their third full-length album titled “The Waiting Soldier,” and they will be performing a few songs from it on the upcoming dates, but will also include material from the first two records: “Tales From an Island” (2009) and “A Profound Path” (2013). Commented guitarist Alfons Wohlmuth on the new album: “It’s a concept album about a guy who decides to call himself a soldier and guard an object. He is not a very intelligent guy, he hasn’t found his place in life and therefore tries to find his way by becoming a soldier.

Blank Manuskript will also play additional four shows from June 25th to June 28th in Germany, Belgium and The Netherlands. Mindspeak, from Vienna will join Blank Manuskript for the first set of dates. Female-fronted quintet released their debut album titled “Pictures” last year, and they will be promoting it live on the upcoming tour.
