30/09/2014: Kscope announce that TesseracT are joining their label for the release of their third album due out in 2015.

Amos Williams, TesseracT bass player comments on the signing .“Really looking forward to discovering the possibilities of working with such a creative label. We admire everything Kscope’s done with bands like Anathema, Katatonia and Steven Wilson, and can’t wait to see where they will guide TesseracT in this new chapter of the band. 26/09/2014: Cuneiform Records announce the release of guitarist Jonathan Badger‘s Verse on 30th September 2014.

As a thinking man’s guitar anti-hero, Badger could be seen as the latest link in a chain that reaches back to forward-looking six-string iconoclasts like Frank Zappa, Richard Pinhas, and Badger’s old teacher, Robert Fripp. But anyone who has absorbed the fractal electronic visions of electronica pioneers like Aphex Twin and Squarepusher, or been bowled over by the eclectic post-rock sound constructions of Tortoise or Godspeed You! Black Emperor should be able to find their way into Badger’s bewitching world.

26/09/2014: To mark the 40th anniversary of Jethro Tull’s War Child (1974), the album is to be re-released with bonus material on 24th November 2014 and in several expanded formats – 2CD/2DVD, 1CD, Digital Download. The original album and 3 bonus tracks have been remixed in 5.1 surround and stereo by Steven Wilson – more details HERE on TPA.

24/09/2014: Following on from the TPA news report earlier this month – progressive metallers Haken have now released the official video, Darkest Light, taken from the Restoration (EP).

24/09/2014: Swedish progressive rock band Kaipa will release their twelfth studio album, Sattyg, through Insideout Music on 10th November 2014. Watch the trailer and read more on TPA HERE

24/09/2014: Just in case you missed the announcements – (welcome back to Earth :0)…

The BBC will show “a feature-length documentary about one of the most successful British bands in rock music, reuniting Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel, Tony Banks, Mike Rutherford and Steve Hackett to tell their story. The film recounts their extraordinary musical story, exploring the songwriting and the emotional highs and lows. It features previously unseen archive material and rare footage from across their entire career.”

BBC 2 on Saturday 4th October 2014 at 21:15.

22/09/2014: The much talked about new Pink Floyd album, The Endless River, will be released on 10th November 2014. News first emerged back in July when Polly Samson tweeted: “Btw Pink Floyd album out in October is called “The Endless River”. Based on 1994 sessions is Rick Wright’s swansong and very beautiful.” Continue reading on TPA HERE.

22/09/2014: Gentle Giant is delighted to present its first ‘official’ live recording since 1976 “Playing the Fool Live”. Titled “Gentle Giant Live at the Bicentennial”, the recording was taken from a concert on July 3rd 1976 at the Calderone Theater, Hempstead, Long Island, which was broadcast for a local radio station.

There are no overdubs or other enhancements on this very live recording. It features Gentle Giant unedited, uninhibited and unrepentant. | The concert features the best-remembered music from past recordings as well as rare songs from the album “Interview” which the band was supporting at that time. | “Gentle Giant Live At The Bicentennial” 1976 is a 2-CD set release available everywhere from November 18th onwards on Alucard Music. 21/09/2014: Guitarist Marc Vooijs from The Aurora Project passes away.

Marc VooijsEarlier today the band announced the passing away of their guitarist and friend Marc Vooijs. The band stated:

With great sadness, we announce the passing of our dear friend and band member Marc Vooijs. Marc was at times a mentor and a true creative force whose lyrics, music, photo’s and artwork never ceases to inspire us.

He was a true original; the genuine article and he cannot be replaced. Not in our band and not in this world. Farewell and rest in peace good friend.”

Our thoughts go out to the remaining band members and all family and friends of Marc.

20/09/2014: No-Man’s fifth album, Together We’re Stranger, originally released in 2003, has been re-mastered by Steven Wilson and includes two bonus tracks, Bluecoda & The Break-Up For Real. The 2014 version will be released on 25th September

“Originally released in 2003, the album saw No-Man (the duo of Tim Bowness and Steven Wilson) further extending the reach of its panoramic soundscapes and cracked, mournful, ballads.

Boasting impressive performances from Ben Castle (clarinets), Roger Eno (harmonium) and Gramophone’s David Picking (percussion, trumpet), amongst others, Together We’re Stranger is a powerful and emotionally direct statement that has deservedly garnered cult acclaim and led to a growing fanbase and internet presence for the band.”

19/09/2014: Australian cinematic progressive-rock singer-songwriter Ben Craven is releasing his new single through an innovative new music delivery system he’s developed called ‘TuneLeak’. Ben Craven’s new single titled “Critical Mass Part 2” is now available through TuneLeak.

17/09/2014: Anna Phoebe will release her forthcoming album, Between The Shadow And The Soul, on 20th October 2014. Anna has uploaded a new video teaser…

17/09/2014: Following Devin Townsend’s recently announced and almost immediately sold-out show at London’s Royal Albert Hall on 13 April are details of three more shows in March 2015.

17/09/14: Italian progressive metallers Kingcrow are nearing completion on their sixth studio album and the follow up to 2013’s In Crescendo. The band have released this little teaser from the yet untitled release.

16/09/14: Progressive psych quintet Jouis debut will release their debut album Dojo via Beetroot Records on 3rd November 2014. The album will be available in 12″ Vinyl, CD and Digital Download formats.

Jouis (Jhew-ee) are a 5 piece band based in Brighton, UK. Combining Jazz, Psychedelia and Progressive Rock, their sounds are designed to open your mind, and spirit you away to new lucid dimensions. Source: Prescription PR

13/09/2014: Transatlantic have announced that there will be three editions of KaLIVEoscope. Recorded over several shows during recent tour, (read our reviews of the Tilburg Concerts), and in support of fourth studio album Kaleidoscope, which released at the beginning of this year. 12/09/2014: Fractal Mirror announce that they have started taking pre-orders on their Bandcamp site for our second album Garden of Ghosts, scheduled for November 2014.

“The album contains 11 tracks and includes a 12 page booklet with artwork from Brian Watson and all the lyrics. The album has been co produced by Brett Kull (Echolyn) and Fractal Mirror. Brett Kull also mixed the album. Larry Fast mastered the album.”

12/09/2014: We are sad to report the death of bass player & vocalist John Gustafson. John had an impressive list of credits to his name – to name but a few: The Big Three and The Merseybeats, vocals on the original recording of Jesus Christ Superstar and Roger Glover’s The Butterfly Ball. He also performed and or recorded with Roxy Music, Gordon Glitrap (The Peack Party), Steve Hackett (Voyage Of The Acolyte), the Ian Gillan Band and progressive rockers Quatermass. John also released a solo album, Goose Grease Angel Air (1997). John was 72.

11/09/2014: Burnt Belief comprising of bassist Colin Edwin (Porcupine Tree) guitarist/composer Jon Durant have teamed up once again to release a new album of progressive ethno-ambient fusion instrumentals titled Etymology. Continue reading on TPA

11/09/2014: Frequency Drift release their latest album Summer via their Bandcamp site. The “6 newly recorded and previously unreleased songs from different eras of the band, featuring the radiant female vocals and varied instrumentation that have become a trademark of Frequency Drift. The songs did not make it on previous albums for time restraints only”.

Frequency Drift point out that “Summer” is not the next regular album, which is being written right now, but “rounds up this era of the band with some of our best performances”

11/09/2014: Berlin based, progressive jazz-rock quartet, Residents Of The Future, featuring guitarist Yuval Ron have launched a Indiegogo crowd-funding campaign. The aim of the campaign is to allow the band to perform in London in the early part of 2015. This video from last year featuring vocalist Tammy Scheffer…

11/09/2014: Rush have confirmed the release of their six disc Blu-ray collection, 40th Anniversary Box Set entitled R40, which will be officially released on 17th November 2014.

10/09/2014: The Reasoning cancel their forthcoming shows scheduled for October and November as part of our Great Escape tour.

Matt Cohen revealed “This was a difficult decision to make, but for a variety of non-musical work related reasons, logistical complications have proven to be insurmountable on this occasion. We would like to apologise wholeheartedly for this…”. Click HERE to read the full article.

10/09/2014: Kscope announce the signing of multi-instrumentalist duo Nordic Giants.

“Nordic Giants have spent the last couple of years bringing their bespoke formula of claustrophobic post-rock cinematic sound to audiences across the UK. They have recently toured with Public Service Broadcasting, God Is An Astronaut & 65daysofstatic, this Summer playing festivals including 2000 Trees, Kendal Calling & Y-Not as well as their own headline shows. 09/09/2014 Bill Nelson‘s After The Satellite Sings is to be re-mastered and reissued on Cocteau Discs (Esoteric Recordings) on 29th September 2014. Album info can be found HERE.

“The album was recorded in 28 days at Fairview Studios in East Yorkshire in 1995 and saw Bill push his constantly evolving musical boundaries still further. A collection of fine songs and three instrumental pieces, “After the Satellite Sings” is a fine album that remains fascinating and engaging nearly two decades on from its first release. The Cocteau Discs edition fully restores the original album artwork and features a new note by Bill Nelson.”

09/09/2014: David Bowie will release a new track in November as part of the Nothing Has Changed | Greatest Hits album. Sue (Or In A Season Of Crime) will be included on the track listing for the “career-spanning collection of Bowie’s music covering fifty years of recorded works from his 1964 debut, Liza Jane, through to a brand new recording made this year”. 08/09/2014 Today sees the release of Amplifier’s brand new album “Mystoria” in Europe, and to celebrate they have a launched a stream of the entire record which fans can listen to here.

08/09/2014: Progressive metallers Haken announce the release of the Restoration EP on the 27th October 2014 on vinyl and as digital download.

‘Restoration’ is comprised of three reworked and updated songs which originally appeared on their 2007/08 self-produced demo, and the release has been mixed & mastered by Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studios. Continue reading on TPA HERE.

06/09/2014: Mahavishnu Orchestra’s – Whiskey A-Go-Go (27 March 1972) will be released on 30th September 2014. The phenomenal band line-up for this concert was John McLaughlin, Jan Hammer, Rick Laird, Jerry Goodman and Billy Cobham…

“The Mahavishnu Orchestra’s seminal appearance at the Whiskey-A-Go-Go on March 27th 1972 has become a highpoint of their achievements. 04/09/2014: Arjen Lucassen and Anneke van Giersbergen have announced a new collaborative project under the title The Gentle Storm, with a debut album planned for release in early 2015. There are also talks of a tour in support of the album – more details as they become available.

03/09/2014: Devin Townsend announces the release of long-awaited new double-album Z² on 27th October (Europe) and 28th October 2014 (USA). The Z² project will also see him play a landmark show at London’s legendary Royal Albert Hall on 13th April 2015. Although the show is now completely SOLD OUT! Continue reading HERE.
