31/05/2014: Recent additions this week to the TPA CD Reviews Section include: Jack Bruce – Silver Rails, Delusion Squared – The Final Delusion, Jon And Vangelis – Page Of Life, IQ – The Road Of Bones, Jeff Green Project – Elder Creek (as well as an interview with Jeff) and Billy Bottle & The Multiple – Unrecorded Beam.

31/05/2014: Scots progressive rockers, Comedy of Errors have revealed a line-up change, with Mark Spalding leaving the band and Sam McCulloch joining as the new guitarist. Spalding, who wishes to explore other musical directions, said that now seemed to be a good time before becoming too involved in the band’s new album.

30/05/2014: With the addition of the final UK date at Manchester’s Band On The Wall, Steve Rothery completes the dates for this year’s touring in support of his The Ghosts Of Pripyat solo album. All four UK dates can be found in the TPA UK GigGuide.

30/05/2014: Ahead of next month’s (30 June 2014) release of the 20th anniversary box set of The Division Bell, Pink Floyd have posted a ‘taster’ trailer…

29/05/2014: Umphrey’s McGee reveal further details of their latest studio album. Similar Skin will feature eleven tracks, “getting the studio treatment for the first time”, including 4 never-before-heard songs. Read TPA’s article HERE.

28/05/2014: In our news article back in November 2013 we revealed that 10t Records had signed Baltimore proggers Iluvatar and that a new album release was due in 2014. Also that Iluvatar‘s long out of print back catalogue was also to become available once more… Today 10t Records announce details of the new album, From the Silence on 10th June 2014 and on general release 15th July 2014.

“From the Silence represents the Baltimore, MD-based band’s first album of all-new material in over a decade! Featuring all of the signature elements that fans expect, this new release proves that Iluvatar have lost none of the epic grandeur that made them a modern prog legend.”

28/05/2014: Fish reveals that John Beck (It Bites) has joined the band as Mike Varty’s replacement…

“I’ve known and admired him since 1987 when It Bites supported Marillion at Wembley arena and our paths have crossed many times over the years with some of you aware of their shining performance at the Leamington Spa Fishheads club convention. I championed their album “Tall ships” when I was presenting on Planet Rock and have been a fan of theirs for a long while. I’ve always loved John’s playing and musicality but never really thought that we would ever get the chance to work together due to his commitment with his own band.” Read the full article HERE.

28/05/2014: In April we revealed details of InsideOut Music’s release of the Steve Hackett ~ Genesis Revisited DVD, which was filmed at The Royal Albert Hall in October last year. This latest DVD from the Hackett camp will be officially released on 30th June 2014. Today Steve Hackett has launched a clip from the DVD – Carpet Crawlers featuring Ray Wilson… Click HERE to watch.

27/05/2014: Neal Morse has announced the release a new solo album entitled Songs From November – due for release on 18th August 2014 through InsideOut Music. The track listing can be found HERE

24/05/2014: Ian Anderson reveals that the extended version of Jethro Tull’s 1973 A Passion Play will be released on 30th June and will feature a newly mixed version of the original album by Steven Wilson. The 2CD/2DVD package also includes an extra two verses recently uncovered for The Foot Of Our Stairs, along with Mr Wilson’s stereo mix of The Chateau d’Herouville Sessions. Read TPA’s article HERE.

23/05/2014: The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown are set to release his first album in a decade – Zim Zam Zim will be out on 28th July. Read TPA’s article

22/05/2014: Midnight Masses, the band of Autry Fulbright (accompanied by Jason Reece) from …And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead, are pleased to announce their debut album ‘Departures’ will be released on the 21st July 2014 in Europe and July 22nd 2014 in the US via our friends at Superball Music. The cover art for the album can be seen above, and the track- listing is as follows:

21/05/2014: Knifeworld announce the release of their second full-length album The Unravelling on the 21st July 2014 (Europe) & 22nd July 2014 (USA) – the band’s first for InsideOut Music.

“The eight-piece band led by Kavus Torabi (Cardiacs, Gong) have been working on the long-awaited follow-up to 2009’s ‘Buried Alone: Tales of Crushing Defeat’ for a while now and July will finally see it unleashed on the world.”

21/05/2014: Bigelf announce European tour dates including five new dates in the UK. All UK dates can be found in the TPA UK GigGuide.

20/05/2014: Pink Floyd is releasing a 20th anniversary box set of The Division Bell, the band’s 1994 multi-million selling album that included the Grammy Award winning track Marooned. Set for release on 30 June 2014, ‘The Division Bell’ was the last studio album to be released by the band: David Gilmour, Nick Mason and Richard Wright. Continue reading

19/05/2014: The Summer’s End Festival 2014 under the snappy title of SE X have announced most of the bands for this year’s 10th anniversary edition. 19/05/2014: Tim Bowness premieres The Warm-Up Man Forever, featuring Pat Mastelloto and Michael Bearpark, the opening track from his forthcoming album Abandoned Dancehall Dreams. The album will be released through InsideOut Music on 23rd June.

19/05/2014: Colossus announce the latest addition to their catalogue with the imminent release of Decameron: Ten Days In 100 Novellas – Part II. See the full list of artists and full track listing HERE.

18/05/2014: An Endless Sporadic, is releasing a new single on the heels of their appearance on the Progressive Nation 2014 cruise hosted by Transatlantic’s Mike Portnoy! The new single, featuring Zach Kamins on guitar, Eloy Palacios on bass, Tony Solis on additional guitar, and Andy Gentile on drums, is titled “Derpulous”; a short instrumental piece about the journey of an alien seahorse in treacherous seas. 16/05/2014: Roadrunner Records have confirmed 30th June 2014 as the official release date for Dream Theater’s 11-disc anthology, entitled The Studio Albums 1992-2011. The box set will contain all their studio releases from Images And Words up to A Dramatic Turn Of Events

16/05/2014: Richard Pinhas & Oren Ambarchi are set to release Tikkun“a staggeringly powerful, double-disc set featuring a studio album & live performance DVD”. Released through Cuneiform Records on 27th May 2014 as either a CD & DVD package or as a Digital Download.

15/05/2014: Touchstone have announced the release of their first live DVD, Live Inside Outside, which is scheduled for June 2014. Read the full story HERE.

15/05/2014: Katatonia are to film the Union Chapel concert from their Unplugged & Reworked Tour (16/05/14) for a DVD release later this year.

15/05/2014: Exovex, featuring Gavin Harrison and Josh Freese are to release their debut album Radio Silence in October on iTunes along with a limited Special Edition CD (1000 signed copies) available only through the band’s website.

“Exovex is the progressive rock creation of South Carolina singer, songwriter and musician, Dale Simmons. Featuring Gavin Harrison (Porcupine Tree, King Crimson) and Josh Freese (NIN, A Perfect Circle, Devo, The Vandals) on drums, this project reflects progressive rock icons of the past while staying firmly rooted in the modern art rock genre. To date, two tracks have been released under the Exovex name: “Daylight” and “Seeker’s Prayer”. 15/05/2014: US psychedelic rockers Electric Citizen will release their nine track debut album Sareen on 1st July.

14/05/2014: Yes reveal the artwork and track listing for their twenty first studio album, produced and mixed by Roy Thomas Baker and scheduled for release on 8th July 2014 through Frontiers Records. Heaven & Earth will feature all newly written material and also mark the first studio outing for new vocalist Jon Davison.

14/05/2014: Mantra Vega is a new venture formed by Heather Findlay and Dave Kerzner and to include Chris Johnson, Stu Fletcher, Alex Cromarty and featuring guitarist David Kilminster. Heather and Dave are currently working on material for their debut album, which has been pencilled in for this autumn.

“Melding together their wide range of styles and influences in Progressive, Classic and Alternative Rock, Mantra Vega offers a fresh blend of female and male lead vocals and harmonies, atmospheric soundscapes, emotional dynamics and powerful moods.”

14/05/2014: Esoteric Antenna have signed Northlands for the release of their debut album Northbound, scheduled for release towards the end of this year. Northlands comprises of multi-instrumentalists Tony Patterson (Vocals, Keyboards, Flute, Duduk, Programming, Orchestrations, Nylon & Guitars) and Brendan Eyre (Keyboards, Piano, Mandolin & Programming). 13/05/2014: Darryl Way will release a new solo album, Children Of The Cosmos on 19th May 2014 – on Right Honourable Records and via Cherry Red Records. The album marks Daryl Way’s return to his more progressive roots combined with his love of classical music.

13/05/2014: We regret to announce that Gong must withdraw from this year’s June and July Festival dates as Daevid Allen needs an operation… This also means that the Magick Brother dates cannot not happen as a trio with daevid, but we hope that some may still take place as Mark Robson and Graham Clark duo gig, as was already booked for KozFest. 12/05/2014: Swiss surrealist painter and sculptor HR Giger died today as the result of injuries sustained during a recent fall down the stairs at his Zurich home. He will be perhaps best remembered for his design work for Ridley Scott’s Alien. Progressive circles will of course be reminded of his iconic imagery on Emerson, Lake & Palmer’s Brain Salad Surgery. HR Giger was 74.

09/05/2014: Opeth have announced that the release of their eleventh studio album, Pale Communion has been rescheduled for 25th August. In a statement on their official website the band confirmed:

“Many of you have heard the rumours already and we can now confirm that the release of ‘Pale Communion’ has indeed been pushed back to late August,” commented Opeth frontman, Mikael Åkerfeldt. “Several circumstances prevented the band from delivering essential tools to Roadrunner in time which are needed to set up the album release properly and release schedule conflicts made us mutually decide on August instead of June.”

09/05/2014: DGM reveal that an October release date has been set for Starless, a multi-disc CD/DVD-A/Blu-Ray boxed set featuring live and studio recordings from October 1973 to April 1974. Rewad TPA’s featured post HERE.

08/05/2014: Marillion announce eight European tour dates including four in the UK starting at Leamington Spa’s Assembly on 7th December. Please visit the TPA UK GigGuide HERE for all the 2014 UK dates. The European shows will feature two in The Netherlands and ‘to be confirmed dates’ in France and Germany.

07/05/2014: KingBathmat have made a re-mastered edition of their Gravity Field (2009) album available for free downloaded from their Bandcamp page, (with a ‘name your price option’).

07/05/2014: American progressive jam rockers Umphrey’s McGee have announced three rare UK shows, to be held at the Brooklyn Bowl based in London’s The O2. The will appear on Thursday 19th June supported by Godsticks and then continuing through Friday 20th June & Saturday 21st June 2014. The TPA report can be found HERE.

07/05/2014: Magenta have announced that they will be playing a short set with the full band on Sunday 18th May for the Trinity Live Festival @ The Assembly, Leamington. Christina made the following brief statement:

“My treatment has gone very well & although we had to withdraw from the original line up for the gig I am delighted to say that I feel well enough to perform with the band & so we will play a sort set with a surprise duet thrown in (hopefully!). Look forward to seeing you all there. Thank you for all your support…”

05/05/2014: Following on from recent posts regarding the unfortunate cancelled Moveable Feast Tour dates – today Fish has revealed that all of the UK tour has now been abandoned and will be rescheduled for later in the year. Some dates have already ben advised…

04/05/2014: Sadly Fish has been forced to cancel another date from The Moveable Feast Tour and the gig at The Robin on 5th May has been rescheduled for 8th December…

03/05/2014: We reported late last month that there were unconfirmed reports that Jon Heisman and Barbara Thompson would take Colosseum on the road for a series of German concerts towards the end of this year. Since then the rumours have been strengthened by the addition of more European dates. Recently an official announcement on the Temple Music website that the tour is now confirmed and news that work is under way for a new studio album, Anno Domini.

01/05/2014: Fish announces the first of the reschedule UK tour dates following on from unavoidable cancellations due to Robin Boult’s recent illness. The Durham, Preston and Southampton dates have been changed to late September – early October and the Liverpool and Sheffield dates in December.
