15/10/2019: Asaf Sirkis Marks Debut on MoonJune Records With The Project Sirkis Bialas IQ and New Album Our New Earth
After 7 album sessions on MoonJune Records (2 albums with Dwiki Dharmawan, 2 with Mark Wingfield, 2 with Markus Reuter & Mark Wingfield, 1 with Dusan Jevtovic, and other 6 coming out in 2020), Israeli born and London UK based drummer Asaf Sirkis is releasing his own album Our New Earth.
The Sirkis/Bialis IQ is an on-going band, established in 2014 consisting of four musical personalities bringing their individuality and working together as a team to create new explorative-forward-looking music. The new album explores many different moods and textures using some rarely used instruments in jazz such as the church organ, waterphone, crotales, konnakol, and different vocal sounds.
With an emphasis on band interaction, Our New Earth celebrates music from both Asaf Sirkis and Sylwia Bialas, covering a wide range of influences such as contemporary classical music, Polish folk, Progressive rock, South Indian and Middle Eastern musics as well as a wide range of dynamics including soulful melodies, aerospheric sounds with strong grooves and full colour electroacoustic jazz with an ethnic touches.
Bialas comments: “I truly feel no need to take the central spot on stage (as a singer is often expected to). I am tremendously fulfilled in being part of the band, contributing to its sound, adding different colours, sharing the joy of interacting and taking risks together. There’s no greater satisfaction for me than to stand ‘inside the band’, listening to the sound created by my fellow musicians at its source, watching their body language. I feel very happy and thankful that both audience and critics recognise and accept my personal approach.”
Our New Earth is the second album from the Sirkis/Bialas IQ. Both performers believe “The message behind Our New Earth is reflecting the drastic changes we are currently experiencing individually and collectively world-wide with the prevailing of technology, social media, and many other issues. We’d like to offer this music as a reflection, a wish of reconnection with nature and a kind of a prayer in music for a better world for all of us and hence the name ‘Our New Earth’“.

15/10/2019: Bent Knee Launch Video for Catch Light From New Album You Know What They Mean
Boston-based sextet Bent Knee have released their new album You Know What They Mean via InsideOutMusic. To celebrate they have launched a video for the track Catch Light;
“On this album we wanted to do more with less,” explains Vince Welch (synth/guitar/production). “For ‘Catch Light’, we traded some of the more cerebral forms and rhythms we’ve used in the past for something more guttural. We’re really happy with how director Adam Peditto and producer Katie Dvorak (of The World Is A Beautiful Place & I’m No Longer Afraid To Die) captured this approach in the video as well.”
Courtney Swain continues: “We were in the best place that we’ve been in. In terms of people and as a group, where I think we learned to pick our battles and just have fun writing this. So this album really portrays us as people, in addition to our music, a lot more than any of our other records. We’re a big group with a lot of different personalities and a lot of voices, but our music brings us together. On the past albums, you could hear the music, but you couldn’t really hear who we are.”
You Know What They Mean is available as a Limited Edition CD Digipak, Gatefold LP + CD & as digital album, featuring the previously released single ‘Catch Light’ & artwork by Riki Nitabaru.

09/10/2019: Cult Of Luna Announce North American Tour for 2020 with Emma Ruth Rundle and Intronaut
After recently releasing their new album, A Dawn to Fear, Cult Of Luna have now announced their return to the USA with a North American tour set for February/March 2020. Emma Ruth Rundle and Intronaut will join them as support.
A Dawn To Fear comprises eight tracks running at seventy-nine minutes. Vocalist and guitarist Johannes Perason comments: “Going into the process, we knew the album we wanted to make, an antithesis of what we’ve done before. For pretty much every album there’s been a very concrete theme. We’ve known from the start the kind of story we wanted to tell, and I didn’t want that to be the case. I’ve seen a lot of subtle changes and patterns in my own behaviour and my own thinking the last couple of years, and I wanted this to be a completely spontaneous process. I just wanted to see what came out of me, and ‘A Dawn To Fear’ is the result of that.”

06/10/2019: Peter Edward “Ginger” Baker ~ RIP
It is with sadness that we reveal that Ginger Baker has died at the age of 80. In later years Ginger had suffered from a degenerative spine condition and the onset of emphysema, however it was his heart that finally was the catalyst for him to retire from live performance in 2016. Commenting at the time Ginger said: “Just seen doctor… big shock… no more gigs for this old drummer… everything is off…” further saying “Of all things I never thought it would be my heart.”
Perhaps best known as the co-founder of Cream, he also played with the Graham Bond Organisation, Blind Faith, Air Force, Hawkwind, Fela Kuti, to mention just a few from his long and varied career.
Here’s Ginger Baker with Bill Frisell and Charlie Haden from Frankfurt – 1995…

Downes Braide Association (DBA) have announced the release of Live In England – a 2CD/DVD Box set on 29th November 2019 via Cherry Red Records. A double-vinyl edition will be released on 14th February. The album features artwork by the Roger Dean.
Live In England, the fourth album release by the duo Geoff Downes and Chris Braide, is their first live album, recorded at their first ever concert at Trading Boundaries, East Sussex, on 28th September 2108. Chris and I were supported by some amazing musicians – Andy Hodge, Dave Colquhoun and David Longdon and narrated by Barney Ashton Bullock. As well as songs from our albums we have added some extra special treats and we hope it gives a rare insight into the special songwriting and production relationship Chris and I have developed over the last decade on the journey that is DBA. “We sincerely hope you enjoy the music with us, from this very special occasion, in a raw and live setting, and we thank you for all your support.”
Chris Braide adds: “After many requests for DBA to perform live, Geoff and myself, along with the excellent musicianship of Andy Hodge, Dave Colquhoun, David Longdon, Barney Ashton Bullock, finally took to the stage for the first time at the stunning Trading Boundaries. It was a wonderful evening surrounded by friends and the beautiful English countryside and this live album is a great document of that magical evening and encapsulates what DBA is all about.”

03/10/2019: Anathema Announce We’re Here Because We’re Here 10th Anniversary Tour
Danny Cavanagh comments; “We never usually do anniversary tours of particular albums, but in the case of ‘We’re Here Because We’re Here,’ which is the album that began our rebirth, we feel this is something we want to do. What I love about this album and that time in our journey is the life affirming qualities in the music. It’s an album of hope, reflection, of summer, of an intense uplifting emotion. We will do all we can to augment the trip with a never before seen light and video show to enhance the experience. Join us in the dreaming light.”
Vincent Cavanagh adds; “Well, putting aside my incredulity that it has been almost 10 years, I’m really into the idea of this tour from a creative perspective. How will we play these songs live now? How will some songs have evolved in the meantime? What can we do with the visual production? It’s a great record to revisit as the themes are still as honest and personal as they’ve always been but there are more shafts of light that cut through the darkness. The plan is to do two sets: the ‘We’re Here Because We’re Here’ album in full and then a second set comprising the best stuff from the other records and maybe a brand new song or two.. Hope to see you there!”
The band recently announced that they have signed to the Mascot Label Group and will be working on a new album for a 2020 release.
