27/04/18: Crunch Time for The Enid

In a statement posted on the band’s Facebook Page yesterday, it has been announced that both Zachary Bullock and Jarrod Elks have left and once again Robert John Godfrey’s will become more actively involved. Jason Ducker and RJG will now take the band forward along assistance from Max Read and Duncan McLaughlan.

“We have both lost confidence in the project going forward and we have concluded independently that it just wasn’t working. After discussing our options, we both agreed that Robert needs to return. Zach has now left and Jarrod has followed suit.”

Robert John Godfrey comments: “Since the Joe Payne days, the band has been extremely unstable. This latest upset is a chance for me to set right the disastrous decisions I have taken of late. The Enid is a unique entity which although I never meant to create, I nevertheless need to take responsibility for. To have walked away at a difficult time was cowardice, and I have paid the price”.

Over the next year or so there are plans to transform Homily into a major new studio album and when it is finished we will organise a substantial international tour.

The full statement can be read HERE on The Enid FB Page.

14/04/18: Midas Fall share animated video for Glue

Scottish post-rock duo Midas Fall, who release their new album Evaporate on 27th April 2018 have revealed their animated video for Glue.

Directed and produced by Stefano Bertelli, with the set design by Riccardo Orlandi, the band describe the track: ’a song that exists in 4 parts and goes on a journey. Over the years time starts to blur the edges of the situation you are in up to the point that this becomes your normality and impossible to see an outside perspective. As the track unfolds the realisation is made and leads to further realisation of the difficulties associated with breaking free. Ultimately ending in chaos. The song gives a little nod to Ravels “Gaspard de la nuit” at the start before going in a more electronic direction, utilising sparseness, beats and synths.’

The band are set to tour the UK in May – Visit the TPA Gig Guide for the these dates and more from across the prog spectrum…

13/04/18: Toundra launch Kingston Falls video

InsideOut Music announce Spanish instrumentalist rockers Toundra will today release the second track from their fifth studio album Vortex, scheduled for release on 27th April 2018. March saw the launch of the video for the first single Cobra, today sees the release of Kingston Falls

The band comments: “This song was the second to last composed for this new album. The most electric and short one we have done so far. We needed to explore what it was to write a song like this because we felt the whole record needed it. A shot of light. It ended up being one of Santi’s (the producer) favourite songs.”

Vortex will be released on special edition CD digipak, gatefold black LP + CD & as digital download.

13/04/18: Haken to release live album in June

Haken announce the release of their first live album, titled L-1VE, scheduled for release on the 22nd June 2018 through InsideOut Music.

Following the release of the bands much-acclaimed fourth studio album ‘Affinity’, they embarked upon their 10th anniversary tour across Europe & North America. Recorded and filmed on the 13th April 2017, at the legendary Melkweg venue on the Amsterdam stop of that tour, this represents the band’s first ever live document with tracks from across the bands discography.

“The release of official live material is a project that is long overdue and we know our existing fans have been crying out for this for some time now. Whilst we have filmed and recorded many shows in the past we have always felt there were elements of our shows that could be improved ‘visually’ before we documented and immortalised this for the world to see and that the timing for a live release never felt right for us. This is just our nature as creative people to be so extremely self-critical and constantly strive for perfection. It is largely due to the will of the people that the idea of this project became a reality. Both the band and the label were inundated with emails requesting a live release in some shape or form, and it was actually rather flattering, so giving the people what they wanted just felt like the right thing to do.”

‘L-1VE’ will be released as a 2CD/2DVD Digipak package & as digital download. The DVD will include 4 bonus tracks filmed at ProgPower USA 2016 that also includes Mike Portnoy’s cameo appearance on gong, as well as all of the official videos from the ‘Affinity’ album. The main show and the bonus material on the DVD are also mixed in 5.1 surround sound.

11/04/18: Goblin announce Dawn Of The Dead 40th anniversary shows

Cult horror soundtrack composer Claudio Simonetti and his band Goblin announce a string of live shows to celebrate 40 years of Dawn Of The Dead and Suspiria.

Best known for their work on George A Romero’s Dawn Of The Dead and Dario Argento’s Suspiria, the band will perform the scores live alongside screenings of both films at six dates in England and Scotland this summer, to mark their 40th anniversaries.

Simonetti told Prog Magazine of his work on Suspiria in 2015: “I love what we came up with for this movie, I think it proves how important music is to a horror film. Or, to any film, actually. Would it have the same impact if you took the music out? I saw scenes before we added the music, and they weren’t as scary.

“I’m not boasting, but… well, every time we play the main theme from this live it gets a huge reaction. Because people associate it with the visuals they see on screen.”

09/04/18: Gazpacho reveal second single from Soyuz

Norwegian progressive Art-rockers Gazpacho reveal the second single, Exit Suite, taken from their forthcoming Soyuz album – scheduled for release through Kscope on 18th May 2018…

“Exit Suite is the cinematic sounding result of a night playing with matches in the studio. It is a song about the fear of dawn and the passing of the old day. The matches were supposed to be our short flickering lives in the dark universe and we ended up making a rhythm out of them and building a song on that rhythm.” Thomas Andersen (Gazpacho).

“Known for their distinctive art rock that balances tense and beautiful arrangements, sinister and soulful melodic lines, Gazpacho’s Soyuz furthers their experimental output.”

All physical pre-orders of Soyuz from the Kscope store come with an exclusive free download – two mp3s for “Soyuz One” and an unreleased instrumental version of “Know Your Time” from previous album Molok.

09/04/18: BEM announce the first solo CD release from Matt Baber

Suite For Piano And Electronics will be the first solo CD release from Matt Baber, founding member of Sanguine Hum – and will be released through Bad Elephant Music (BEM) on 15th June 2018.

“This solo album sees Matt taking a sidestep away from the band format, showcasing a different side to his musical personality. With influences as diverse as Steve Reich, Keith Emerson and Boards of Canada, Matt has created a unique suite of modern music that seamlessly blends ambient minimalism with classical sensibilities.”

Matt spoke about BEM: “it’s great to be working with BEM for my first officially released CD. It’s hard to categorise music like this, and I’m lucky there are labels like Bad Elephant who have such a wide-ranging and exciting scope to the music they release…”

“I’m delighted Matt approached us,” responded BEM label manager David Elliott. “I was aware of his ‘private’ solo releases, and I’ve always liked Sanguine Hum for their modern approach to progressive rock, so offering ‘Suite For Piano and Electronics’ was always going to be a no-brainer…”

06/04/18: Dream The Electric Sleep “lost album” from 2008

Dream The Electric Sleep have announced a May release date for their lost 2008 album The Giants’ Newground and have shared the first single We Smell The Blood.

Dream the Electric Sleep officially formed in 2009 but in 2008, Matt Page and Joey Waters decided to write and record an album together. It was the first time Page wrote the lyrics and took over the lead vocal position in a band, and the first time Page and Waters were the sole writers of a project. “After years of playing together, Joey and I were ready for something different… a new direction, and honestly at that time, a last attempt to find a way forward together as a band. We had played with so many different people and never found a line up that captured what we wanted so this was it! We were attempting to reconceive our efforts together and this album represented that departure” explains Page.

The Giants’ Newground will be released worldwide on 18th May 2018 via 7Hz Productions (ADA) and will be a precursor to a brand new album being presently recorded and due for release in 2019.
