19/03/18: ESP 2.0 to release new album in April

ESP 2.0 will release their second studio album 22 Layers Of Sunlight on 20th April 2018. The follow up to their well received 2016 Invisible Din sees Tony Lowe (guitar, keyboards & vocals) and Mark Brzezicki (drums) are joined by ex-Lotus Eaters Peter Coyle (vocals), alongside Pete Clark (bass) and guest Richard Smith (keyboards).

“…this incarnation features Peter Coyle, formerly of The Lotus Eaters, joining forces with renowned composer/producer Tony Lowe to write these deeply evocative and stunningly original songs, merging passionate vocals and intricate soundscapes. Sometimes using complex rhythmic structures – supplied by ace session drummer Mark Brzezicki, overlaid with modern progressive rock elements and orchestral movements, the music creates an intense, dramatic but ultimately uplifting experience. 60+ minutes.”

The band will be out on the road during 2018 in support of the album, including two gigs in April – visit the TPA UK Gig Guide for these dates and more from across the prog spectrum…

16/03/18: TesseracT premiere video for their new single – King

Ahead of the release of TesseracT’s new studio album Sonder, which is out on 20th April through Kscope, the band have revealed their first official video, for the new single King.

The emotive and viscerally challenging clip, was directed by Kyle Kadow & Steven Cleavland and shot in a snowy Wisconsin following a brutal storm, which all added to the atmospheric footage as bassist Amos Williams explains “We have been very lucky to work with two cinematographers of such vision and quality as Kyle and Steven. We gave them free reign with the creation of the first story board. They chose to explore the theme of claustrophobia and how fear can control our lives. Using a luminary figure as a beacon of hope and escape for the characters.”

Lyricist and vocalist Daniel Tompkins expands on the song’s concept by saying “Far too often we find ourselves lead into conflict and inner turmoil. Life is surely a battle, history has a bad habit of repeating itself and when living with the constraints of an onerous life it’s easy to overlook the greatest gift we’ve ever received: life itself”.

The band will be undertaking a series of US and Canadian tour dates during April & May, with summer festivals across Europe before hitting stages in Europe towards the end of the year.

In a statement on their website the band reveal that after almost fifteen years they have called a halt – for the moment at least…

“It is with a heavy heart, but perhaps one of slight relief collectively, that we officially announce that ENOCHIAN THEORY has come to a logical end. Whether it’s a hiatus or the final end, we are not sure…but for now at least, we have to put this all away and explore pastures new.

We have tried to find a way forward in the past 5 years to create a new album, but there are too many factors working against this process and we have collectively come to the conclusion that it is best to move forward in different directions.”

07/03/18: The Monks of Doom return with new studio album

The Monks of Doom are set to release their first album of all new material since 1993’s Forgery in the Spring of 2018.

“Recorded over a several years beginning in 2009, The Brontë Pin continues the Monks’ spontaneous forays into the worlds of improvised music, adventurous instrumental work, dystopian paranoia and mind melting psychedelia.”

“Recorded and mixed by Bruce Kaphan (American Music Club, David Byrne, Chris Isaak, The Black Crowes), the album simply picked up where the Monks left off in 2005 with their album of covers, What’s Left For Kicks? By measures more aggressive and more laid back than previous recordings, The Brontë Pin continues in the grand tradition of this exceptional yet reclusive group of musicians, melding myriad influences into a virtuosity hard to define in the world of current music.”

Art/psych/prog rock collective, The Monks of Doom features members from Camper Van Beethoven (Victor Krummenacher, Greg Lisher and Chris Pedersen), along with Counting Crows’ David Immerglück.

05/03/18: 3RDegree to release new studio album in April

Jersey art-rockers 3RDegree will release their sixth album, Ones & Zeros: Volume 0 on 30th April 2018. The band envision the new release as a prequel to the 2015’s Ones & Zeros: Volume 1 album.

“Where Volume 1 imagined a world transformed by a Technological Singularity, Volume 0 supplies the backstory nearer to present-day. Instead of a landscape dominated by a ubiquitous corporation, the world is seen through the eyes of cybernetic companions, ambitious transhumanist parents, lonely internet trolls, social-media addicts trying to expand their personal brand and elitists moving to New Zealand to ride out the apocalypse.

And in true 3RDegree fashion, this is all delivered with a healthy dose of dark humor using melodic, song-based progressive rock as the vehicle.”

The band will embark on a brief US tour in support of the album during May – visit the band’s Facebook Page for more details.

The CD will be available directly from the 3RDegree website, via their Bandcamp site as well as from prog rock retailers worldwide.

01/03/18: Spock’s Beard announce 13th studio album Noise Floor

Spock’s Beard have announced the release of their 13th studio album Noise Floor on 25th May 2018. As announced previously, for this album Ted Leonard, Alan Morse, Dave Meros & Ryo Okumoto are joined in the studio once again by drummer & original member Nick D’Virgilio, who records his first album with the band since 2010’s ‘X’.

01/03/18: Malady to release second album later this month

Finland’s Malady will release their second studio album, via Svart Records, on 30th March 2018 and follows in the footsteps of their eponymous debut album: “a beautifully realised piece of original Finnish progressive rock which had its roots very strongly in the sound of the early 70s and achieved cult approval”. The second album from the quintet, Toinen Toista, pushes the boundaries further than before…

“Composed and arranged as a collaborative piece by the band, ‘Toinen Toista’ has layers upon layers that captivate and entrance you, permitting more details to be discovered with each listen. Their sound is glazed with the kind of homegrown syrupy finish only vintage Scandinavian Prog Rock can offer but is combined with wondrous melodies that feel truly timeless. Lyricist and drummer for Malady, Juuso Jylhänlehto, has said: “this album is open to many interpretations and laden with symbolism, but at its core lays the basic questions of being human and the transient nature of things.” These are subjects that have been explored since time immemorial, yet ones that continue to be reflected on in new ways by Malady.”
