24/08/17: Daniel Cavanagh announces debut solo album
Daniel Cavanagh will release his debut solo album, Monochrome, through Kscope on the 13th October 2017. The album features guest appearances from former The Gathering vocalist Anneke Van Giersbergen and violinist extraordinaire Anna Phoebe. Today sees the first recorded music to be heard from the album…
Monochrome is a deeply reflective and personal offering, inspired by internal feelings of love and loss, Daniel Cavanagh explains “The album has a late night, candlelit feeling, evoking the light of dusk as the summer sun sinks below the horizon, setting the scene for thoughts and meditations that many people will relate to.”
Elaborating further on the album and songs he continues “A lot of this material could easily have made it on to the last Anathema album or any future album; that’s how highly the band rate it. There are several highlights: ‘The Exorcist’ and ‘The Silent Flight of the Raven Winged Hours’ are among some of my best works of the last decade. Taking them from the band was not an easy decision but I am glad; they’re so personal as to not need more input.”
23/08/17: Wobbler announce album details
“From Silence to Somewhere offers up a sound that is enigmatic, multi-flavoured and adventurous, with the use of copious amounts of Mellotron, Moog, Hammond, Chamberlin and other classical analogue keyboards, and of course the renowned Rickenbacker Bass.
The guitar riffs go from poignant to edgy. Melancholy harmonies combine with powerful crescendos and high-energy, spinet-driven passages, flavoured with a touch of Flamenco and Italian Renaissance music to produce and album comprising four epic tracks that explore the idea of metamorphosis and alchemy. It is a natural continuation from WOBBLER’s previous albums, but with a darker, more introspective edge.”

02. Rendered in Shades of Green
03. Fermented Hours
From Silence to Somewhere will be released through Karisma Records on 20th October 2017.

21/08/17: White Moth Black Butterfly release video for Tempest
“The clip was filmed against the rugged & stunning backdrop of Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park in Scotland, with “Tempest” being the concluding episode in a two-part story”
Vocalist Dan Tompkins explains further the concept in more depth “Rather than present them in order we believed it would add to the magic of the story by allowing Tempest to surface first, which is actually the concluding part to the plot. The story behind “Tempest” has a medieval and fantasy based theme and we couldn’t have achieved this without the assistance of Duncarron Medieval Village and the Clanranald Trust, who styled our costumes and performed in the prequel that we are yet to announce”

PFM is famous for never repeating previous records and “Emotional Tattoos” is an album that will leave emotions on the skin, like when a spaceship lands in a fantastic world with vegetation and animals in harmony with each other.”

18/08/17: Godsticks to release new studio album in October
Following on from their European tour with The Pineapple Thief at the start of 2017, Godsticks entered the studio to finish work on their new studio album, Faced With Rage, which will be released on 13th October 2017 via Kscope. Here’s a little taster of what to expect…
“The aggressive feel and sound from Emergence remains intact but we think that we’ve probably created our most progressive album to date, albeit unintentionally!” says singer and guitarist Darran Charles. “We wanted our previous album Emergence to be an onslaught of aggressive heavy guitars and vocals from start to finish because we felt we needed to make a strong statement about the direction we were heading in musically” reminisces Charles, “but ‘Faced with Rage’ features a lot more light and shade, and I think we’ve been more creative when trying to shape the dark and aggressive feel we wanted”.
Prior to the release Godsticks will be on tour with The Pineapple Thief with shows across Europe, and two in the UK, during September. The band will also make appearances at this year’s HRH Prog 6 and Planet Rockstock festivals.

We managed to find some excellent extras and tortured them with freezing showers in the clip, with some travelling as far as Sweden for the pleasure! It is great to have Glynn back in the band with Small Dark Lines showcasing all his power and versatility. This single should give people another glimpse into the double album Legends of the Shires and an idea of what is to come on release day 8 September 2017.”

24/08/17: Terje Rypdal’s Bleak House vinyl reissue
Terje Rypdal is recognised as a pioneer of his own signature jazz guitar style and he has been name checked by artists such as Jeff Beck, David Torn, Bill Frisell, Andy Summers, Nels Cline and many more for his influential work. Round 2 Records are proud to announce a reissue of his debut album as a solo artist ‘Bleak House’ due out 29th September 2017 as well as a limited edition purple vinyl release.
Recorded over three sessions in 1968, Bleak House marks Terje Rypdal’s first step into jazz from his psychedelic roots and combines introspective, wintry impressionism with his interest in unusual textures and elements. To begin experimenting as a solo artist he delved between the parallel galaxies of contemporary composition, modern jazz and progressive rock. With a go-ahead from Polydor, Rypdal set up in the studio with later ECM label mate, Jan Garbarek, Knut Riisnæs, Jon Christensen and Christian Reim (The Dream) to record.

04/08/17: Listen to the first single from Caligula’s Horse new studio album
Australian progressive metallers, Caligula’s Horse, who last month announced the release of their forthcoming studio album, In Contact, today reveal the first single, Will’s Song (Let The Colours Run)…
Guitarist Sam Vallen comments: “Will’s Song is something special for us. It’s dark and heavy, especially by C Horse standards, but it never feels like a compromise between those traits and the melody and colour we strive for.
This track embodies the possibilities of our new line-up. Josh and Adrian have toured with us for a while now, but Will’s Song finally shows what they’re capable of, and how much we’ve all grown as a group through the changes. It’s a massive step forward for Caligula’s Horse.”
In Contact will be released on 15th September 2017, through the InsideOut Music label.
03/08/17: Silhouette to release new studio album in September

Unlike its predecessor The World is Flat And Other Alternative Facts is not a concept album although there are common themes running throughout. The band explain: “…lyrically and musically, you will recognize an introspective mood all over the album.”
“The World is Flat” is foremost a statement about shallowness around us. About the influence of internet trolls, cheating bankers, lying politicians and incomprehensible violence, leading to scared people who don’t know whom to trust anymore.”
The World is Flat And Other Alternative Facts will be released on 23rd September 2017.
02/08/17: David Gilmour premieres Rattle That Lock taken from forthcoming Live releaseD
David Gilmour releases a full-length clip Rattle That Lock, by way of a taster for his upcoming Live at Pompeii release.
“45 years after Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour filmed ‘Live At Pompeii’ in the legendary Roman Amphitheatre there, he returned for two spectacular shows in July 2016, part of the year-long tour in support of his No.1 album ‘Rattle That Lock’. The performances were the first-ever rock concerts for an audience in the stone Roman amphitheatre, and, for two nights only, the 2,600-strong crowd stood exactly where gladiators would have fought in the first century AD.”
‘David Gilmour Live At Pompeii’ is an audio-visual spectacle, featuring lasers, pyrotechnics and a huge circular screen on which specially-created films complement selected songs, but paramount above all is the astonishing music and stellar performances. The show includes songs from throughout David’s career, solo and with Pink Floyd, including ‘One Of These Days’, the only song that was also performed at the band’s 1971 show, and six songs from ‘Rattle that Lock’, as well as two from 2006’s ‘On An Island’.”

01/08/17: Bent Knee release The Well live in the studio
To coincide with the West Coast leg of Bent Knee‘s US tour, and taken from their fourth studio album, Land Animal, released in June this year, comes the “live” in the studio video The Well
Speaking about The Well, guitarist Ben Levin says: “We’re worried about climate change but aren’t doing much about it. The Well is about the thoughts and ideas that prevent us from taking the necessary action to take care of our planet. Many people feel helpless and overwhelmed by the scale of the problem, while others don’t like the solutions to the problem, so they convince themselves the threat isn’t that urgent. Personally, I feel a mix of both and it weighs hard on my conscience. We tour all the time and I’ve grown so used to just filling up the tank over and over again over thousands of miles, throwing recyclables in the trash, and passing mutilated animal corpses on the highway without a second thought. Fortunately, I’ve recognized my own hypocrisy, so hopefully I’ll do something about it. Go humans!”

01/08/17: New studio album from Primus next month
Rolling Stone reveal that Primus have adapted an obscure children’s book for their ninth album, The Desaturating Seven, which will be released via ATO Records on 29th September 2017. The trio will then embark on promoting the album, with a US tour kicking off on 20th October in San Antonio and concluding 13th November in New Orleans.
“The experimental rock trio tease the record’s carnivalesque atmosphere with lead single “The Seven,” an ever-mutating epic filled with marching rhythms, jarring tempo shifts and a prog-funk groove (cleverly set in 7/8) that recalls early Eighties King Crimson.”
“It definitely has that Discipline feel,” bassist-singer Les Claypool tells Rolling Stone, referencing King Crimson’s 1981 LP. “But it’s also very reminiscent of [Primus’ 1991 track] ‘Jerry Was a Racecar Driver,’ that tapping and the syncopated bit with me and [guitarist Larry “Ler” LaLonde]. But all that probably comes from the Crimson influence as well because Crimson was definitely a big influence on the three of us.”
