A third CD available only with the blu-ray edition features a complete alternate version of the album using live tracks and studio run throughs. Of these “High The Memory” (a studio run-through of side 2), and “Ritual” (live in Zurich, April 1974) are previously unreleased.

22/07/16: The Pineapple Thief premiere In Exile video

The Pineapple Thief have launched the video, In Exile, taken from their forthcoming album, Your Wilderness, scheduled for release on the 12th August 2016 through Kscope.

“In Exile is the first track on our new album and I think it sets the tone perfectly. To me, it’s immediately apparent to the listener how important Gavin’s drumming is, as well as Darran’s fantastic guitar work – not to take away anything from the three of us in the band of course! As for the meaning, it’s a song about estrangement”. Bruce Soord

For the first time, The Pineapple Thief has brought in several special guest performers. Bruce Soord adds: “Since our last album ‘Magnolia,’ the most eye catching change is obviously having Gavin Harrison contribute drums throughout the album. This has not only redefined our sound, but also redefined how we approached the songs as a band. Gavin’s drumming is technically brilliant, but also incredibly musical, and it inspired all of us to raise our game. I’ve also rediscovered my progressive roots in terms of song-writing and arrangement. Added to that, we were lucky enough to have John Helliwell from Supertramp contribute some beautiful clarinet parts and Geoffrey Richardson (Caravan) provided a string quartet. We were also joined by a lovely four piece choir and, to cap it all off, my friend Darran Charles (Godsticks) added some jaw dropping guitar playing… You’ve never heard a The Pineapple Thief album like this one! I am convinced people will love this record as much as we do.”

19/07/16: Alan White to recuperate after surgery

Having undergone spinal surgery recently Alan White has announced that he will be taking a period of recuperation. In his absence Jay Schellen will take over the drum duties for the current dates.

Alan White“After enduring intense back pain which began halfway through YES’ spring European tour, and working with European and American doctors, spinal specialists, exploring optional treatments, I’ve had no choice but to undergo surgery to repair an injured disc in my lower back. I’m pleased to announce a very positive result from this procedure, which took place in Seattle.

With some rest and physical therapy, I should be back in good form and ready to rejoin the Summer YES Tour in the near future. I’m eager to be on the road with the band but also need to ensure my recovery is complete before doing so.

Until I’m able to rejoin the tour, my good friend Jay Schellen will be performing with the band and keeping my drum stool warm. Please welcome him to our YES family; he’s doing a great service by stepping in last minute so as to not disappoint everyone hoping to see YES music performed live this summer.

Please know that I’ll be back as soon as physically possible and looking forward to taking my place on stage with the band.”

11/07/16: Sweden’s Beardfish call it a day

Beardfish logoBAND STATEMENT: “After a longer hiatus and some disagreements and various difficulties within the band we have decided to call it quits. This was not an easy choice to make. Beardfish has always been our main musical outlet – a proper garage band – the kind that meet up in the rehearsal studio and try out new material together for long, massive sessions at a time. Some of the best times of our lives have been spent together on the road, in the studio and just hanging out. Growing up, having families and all that has made that particular way of working very difficult, leading to long periods where we haven’t been able to rehearse.. And we LIKE to play.

We’ve had a very good run though; eight albums in fifteen years, nine if you include “The early years” (ten if you count “The Sane Day” double album as two!). We’ve toured with some great bands. We’ve met amazing people and found friends in places we’d never been before. We want to thank everyone who has supported us throughout the years, you guys are fantastic and the prog community is a very special place to be a part of.

We spent our youth and our early adulthood as Beardfish and we grew up within the band.. Individually we will now venture out into other musical projects. No matter what, Beardfish has been very special and we will all hold it close to our hearts, but right now it’s time for new adventures.”

Her current album Confessions of a Romance Novelist was co-produced and co-written by Paul. The EP also features an alternate mix of “Feeling My Heart Run Slow” by Andy MacFarlane of The Twilight Sad.”

06/07/16: Nosound release first video from forthcoming studio album

Nosound’s latest studio album, scheduled for release on 2nd September 2016, marks a major departure and includes guest appearances from Anathema’s Vincent Cavanagh and acclaimed Italian singer Andrea Chimenti.

“After a decade of crafting a very particular type of widescreen melancholia and wistful imagery, Nosound’s fifth studio album Scintilla introduces a wholly new musical and visual approach for Giancarlo Erra’s ever-evolving band.”

Nosound have launched their first video for the song “Short Story” – Giancarlo comments of the song and video “This is one of the shortest and less structured Nosound songs, both musically and lyrically, and yet one that perfectly sets the mood to ‘different’ and prepares for the album. A statement of intentions, so much that it is the opening of the album and the one we choose to be the first single. The video was shot specifically for this song, introducing the places where the album was partly written and recorded, and at the same time illustrating the emotional extremes present on the whole album, being at the same time delicate and thunderous without very much for the in-between.”

Anathema’s Vincent Cavanagh lends his distinctive vocals to two of the album’s tracks – “In Celebration Of Life” and “The Perfect Wife”, and cellist Marianne De Chastelaine returns once more to the Nosound fold (this time in a more free-flowing and improvisational capacity). Acclaimed Italian singer Andrea Chimenti co-writes and sings on the serene “Sogno E Incendio”.

Scintilla will be released on the following formats and is available to pre-order from Burning Shed.

06/07/16: Gong to release new studio album in September

Rejoice! I’m Dead! is the title for the forthcoming Gong album, scheduled for release, through Madfish, on 16th September 2016.

Kavus says of the album: “Rejoice! I’m Dead! came together over several weeks in an East London rehearsal studio. In terms of the writing, the songs became very elastic, what may have been brought to the band as a fixed idea, through experimenting, discarding, expanding and mutating evolved into the songs as you hear them now. Every member was key in the development of each song.” Thus, Kavus (vocals/guitar), Fabio Golfetti (guitar/vocals), Dave Sturt (bass/vocals), Ian East (sax/flute) and Cheb Nettles (drums/vocals) took on the mantle of steering the Teapot further into outer space and the inner ear.

Her music has been noted for its raw, heartfelt and cinematic qualities, and been featured in independent films by British directors Oliver Guy Watkins and Tim Porter, as well as various contemporary dance and theatre performances.
