The original band featuring Quincy and Smith recorded four studio albums with sequentially-numbered titles before they split up in the early 1970s. The other two original members, Dick Morrissey and J.W.Hodkinson, have since passed away, but the interest in IF has been sustained over recent years with the remastered back catalogue.
With this new recording, Dave Quincy and Terry Smith are now reunited to continue that interrupted sequence four decades on, and more ‘live’ dates are planned for 2016.
The slightly delayed If 5 will be released through Repertoire Records on 6th May 2016.

“An inspirational, progressive-pop melting pot with touches of punk and ska thrown in for good measure, Mothertongue defies any form of categorisation. Infectious and fun, the band’s stated influences include anything from science fiction to imaginary numbers, oh, and dinosaurs, mustn’t forget the dinosaurs…
With incisive, intelligent lyrics and first-class musicianship, the band’s debut album Unsongs is unlike anything you will have heard in recent years. The music will lead you on a roller-coaster journey of acid jazz inventiveness that’s a big heap of noisy and light and also includes a lot of brass because everyone likes brass, right?”

15/03/16: Jon Anderson and Roine Stolt album set for release in June
In a video message posted on the Yes Facebook Page, Jon Anderson reveals that he has just finished a new album with Rione Stolt & friends entitled Invention of Knowledge.
Jon Anderson said: “…Music is always the driving force in my life… working with such a wonderful musician as Roine Stolt made the creation of this album very unique, we are very excited with the release of Invention of Knowledge.”
Roine Stolt added: “It is not aiming at being new YES music; just new music, modern and classical, rock and ethno, tribal and orchestrated, grooving and floating. Hopefully in the true spirit of “progressive” – leaning forward, surprising and also comforting with familiar run-arounds. We’ve been “inventing” as we go along – Jon is an endless source of new ideas. We’ve been bouncing ideas back and forth for months and as a result there are probably dozens of versions of these songs. It’s been a very interesting and rewarding time and the result is just insanely detailed.”
“Written AND recorded over the course of 1 and a half years, the tracks have been in a state of constant change as Roine and Jon swapped and refined ideas by sending tracks to each other via the internet. In March 2015, an ensemble was put together by Roine to realize the music live in the studio. Joining him there was Tom Brislin (who played on the YES Symphonic tour) and Lalle Larsson on keys, Jonas Reingold and Michael Stolt on bass and Felix Lehrmann on drums. The sessions were also bolstered by appearances from Daniel Gildenlöw, Nad Sylvan, Anja Obermayer, Maria Rerych and Kristina Westas, who all provided backing vocals.”

“Panzerpappa is the definitive Norwegian instrumental Avant/Progressive Rock/RIO group. Their inventive and playful sound (“Progressive Rock with a friendly face”) is at once reminiscent of inspirational precursors such as Samla Mammas Manna, King Crimson, Henry Cow, Univers Zero and Frank Zappa, while at the same time sounding unmistakably like … Panzerpappa!”

This will be the band’s first album in eight years & the follow-up to the well received Experiments In Mass Appeal. Falling Satellites features eleven new tracks and with the final six forming a thirty-minute long suite.

I think this is our strongest album to date and moves the sound forwards whilst still referencing what’s gone before. It’s also great to have finally co-written some songs with John in a Frost* context. The end results were better than either of us could have imagined, we just can’t wait to get out and play it all live now.”

Joe Payne said of the track: “With Robert Godfrey taking a step back, this song and video represent a huge step forward for the rest of us as a band. Someone Shall Rise is a perfect example of the direction we’ll be taking beyond the Godfrey years – it’s very us.”
“The video was filmed at the atmospheric Holy Sepulchre, Northampton – a setting which we felt to be both beautiful and controversial for a song which can be interpreted as illusively spiritual and political.”
11/03/16: Keith Emerson ~ RIP
In a year that has already robbed us of so many greats, it is now our sad duty to announce the death of Keith Emerson. It is slowly emerging that Keith died at his Santa Monica (LA) home on 10th March 2016 and that he may have taken his own life. Please note this is unconfirmed at this moment in time.
Carl Palmer spoke of Keith’s passing: “I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of my good friend and brother-in-music, Keith Emerson…”
Greg Lake posted this message on his website: As sad and tragic as Keith’s death is, I would not want this to be the lasting memory people take away with them. What I will always remember about Keith Emerson was his remarkable talent as a musician and composer and his gift and passion to entertain. Music was his life and despite some of the difficulties he encountered I am sure that the music he created will live on forever.”

09/03/16: Sir George Martin ~ RIP
The BBC revealed today, that Sir George Martin had passed away at his home in Coleshill near Swindon, on the evening of Tuesday, 8th March at the age of 90. Affectionately known as the fifth Beatle, it was fitting that The Beatles drummer Ringo Starr broke the news, on Twitter and led tributes, saying Sir George “will be missed”.
“In a career that spanned seven decades, he was an inspiration to many and is recognised globally as one of music’s most creative talents. He was a true gentleman to the end.”
Sir George received a knighthood in 1996 and in 1999 he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Paul McCartney said ”I’m so sad to hear the news of the passing of dear George Martin. I have so many wonderful memories of this great man that will be with me forever. He was a true gentleman and like a second father to me. He guided the career of The Beatles with such skill and good humour that he became a true friend to me and my family. If anyone earned the title of the fifth Beatle it was George. From the day that he gave The Beatles our first recording contract, to the last time I saw him, he was the most generous, intelligent and musical person I’ve ever had the pleasure to know.”
John Lennon once said “George Martin made us what we were in the studio – he helped us develop a language to talk to other musicians.”
George is survived by his wife of nearly fifty years, Judy Lockhart Smith, and his four children – Alexis, Gregory (from a previous marriage to Sheena Chisholm), Lucie and Giles.

08/03/16: Tír na nÓg to release new live album
Tír na nÓg will release a new live album, Live At The Half Moon on 6th June 2016 through Mega Dodo. The Irish duo released their fourth studio album, The Dark Dance last year, their first album of original material in 42 years, following the release of Strong In The Sun (1973)
“Tír na nÓg have been described as Alt Folk, Prog Folk, Psych Folk, and even Space Folk! But the duo, formed by Leo O’Kelly & Sonny Condell in 1970, transcends all these categories. What is not in doubt is that they are two of the most original and influential songwriters and performers Ireland has ever produced. Songs like Condell’s ‘Two White Horses’, and O’Kelly’s ‘Looking Up’, both of which are featured on Live At The Half Moon, are as good as anything Ireland’s produced in the past four decades.”
Tír na nÓg – Live At The Half Moon will be available as a Limited Edition LP, CD and Digital Download.
07/03/16: New solo album by bass player Maarten Bakker
Modest Midget’s bass man Maarten Bakker is to release a solo album on 20th March 2016.

07/03/16: Robert Godfrey to retire from live touring
Robert John Godfrey has announced that he will retire from live touring at the end of the current run of dates in support of the band’s 14th studio album, Dust, scheduled for release on 1st April 2016. RJG revealed he will make an occasional guest appearance, however his last official concert with The Enid will be at London’s Cadogan Hall on 2nd April.
Details were revealed in a somewhat controversial interview with Raw Ramp, in which he looked back at the music industry and took a parting swipe at the current prog scene.
“The thing that pisses me off so much about the prog scene is that it is all about muso rock. It’s all about people like Steven Wilson who possess all the talent and all the production genius – and has made a great name for himself – but who offer absolutely no content that is memorable or meaningful.
“Musos were always a problem – but it wasn’t a big problem because they were always overshadowed by the truly creative, truly progressive bands of their day. Bands like Yes, Genesis and Procol Harum or the R’n’B side which started with Jack Bruce and Cream. And there was the pop side, with Pet Sounds and Brian Wilson and the Beatles.”
07/03/16: Robert Fripp announces line-up change
Ahead of their forthcoming tour Robert Fripp announces that Jeremy Stacey will replace Bill Rieflin fo the shows.
Bill Rieflin recently decided to take a sabbatical, a decision supported by all the Crimson Brothers. So, what to do with September performances already sold out?
Both Gavin and Jakko’s first thought was: call Jeremy Stacey. Jeremy grew up in the Bournemouth Scene, where I went to see both Stacy Brothers at Bumbles (a Bournemouth club) in 1981. Jeremy worked with Paul Holman in Wimborne, next door to the former Fripp World HQ. Bournemouth features large in the Crimson world of players: Michael Giles, Greg Lake, Robert Fripp, Gordon Haskell, Andy McCullough, John Wetton and now – Jeremy Stacey.”

“After the release in 2014 of No tengas miedo, the acclaimed first work of Kant Freud Kafka (the symphonic prog rock project of the Catalan musician Javi Herrera), KFK’s second work, called Onírico, will be hopefully released in 2016. Onírico is a thematic, rather than conceptual, record, slightly based on the world of dreams.”
You can hear a brief demo of Onírico at KFK’s website – HERE.
“Onírico is a work slightly different to No tengas miedo, although it still keeps and extends the symphonic/classical traits and the instrumental richness of its predecessor (cello, violin, viola, oboe, cor anglais, etc.) and will for sure appeal to all who enjoyed it. A major difference is the presence of singing voices. The record will contain six tracks, three of them sung in Spanish, two in English and one in Catalan.”
