14/10/2014: Leon Alvarado to release his third album, 2014, Music from an Expanded Universe, featuring Trey Gunn (King Crimson) and Jerry Marotta (Peter Gabriel), on 30th October 2014 and his the first under with Melodic Revolution Records.
Says Leon, “The whole idea of the CD started by the need to put out some new product in between full albums. It had been a long time since I had put out new music and I decided to make sure I released something in 2014. What drove me to take the path I took was my wanting to work with some of the King Crimson guys on new music. Once the project started to take shape I kicked around some ideas regarding the packaging visuals. I have always liked the out-of-this-world look of the artwork by the recently departed Swiss artist H.R. Giger and I thought something with that sort of flavor would give the thing an air of futuristic surrealism. I think in a strange sort of way it suits the music. The actual song titles got settled in at the end of the project with the exception of ‘Blood Like Red’ which is in a way an homage to King Crimson’s music. The way I pitched the music to Trey Gunn was by describing it as a sort of ‘Crimson-Light’ type of project. So, if there is a message in this thing it would be the fact that I am consciously trying to move forward with my music while expanding the catalog with something that is fresh with creative ideas and the creative input from some very talented and well-respected musicians.” Source Glass Onyon PR
Prog Rock News – Week 2
13/10/2014: …And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead are set to release their new album “IX” in Europe on October 20 and in the US on November 11 and following last week’s debut of the track “The Ghost Within”, the band can now reveal another side to the album with “A Million Random Digits”.
The band had this to say about the track: “A Million Random Digits – the title stolen from a book I found on one of those shelves in a guest house where backpackers are supposed to leave a book when they take one. Fortunately I’m not a backpacker so I’m not obligated to leave anything if I take one – which is also how I got a copy of Balthazar Gracian’s Art of Worldly Wisdom (in it Gracian recommends allowing yourself one vice, and mine is stealing useful things like books). The lyrics were inspired by the Viking series I’d recently watched on the History Channel -actually I watched a pirated copy (yet another vice) because we don’t get the History Channel out here. I felt a sense of connection to the idea of the Northmen being away from family while going a-raiding, similar to being away from family while working on a record – you end up killing about the same amount of people as well.”
