25/02/2014: With Kaleidoscope just released and Transatlantic about to hit the road, guitar/vocalist Roine Stolt took a break from tour rehearsals to give TPA a call from sunny LA and to discuss the new album, the bands’ evolution and the upcoming shows. Read Dave Baird’s INTERVIEW HERE

25/02/2014: “Their Mortal Remains” is a new Pink Floyd exhibition to be held at Milan’s La Fabbrica Del Vapore and opens on the 19th September 2014. Tickets went on sale on the 17th February via www.pinkfloydexhibition.com. Described as a “surreal, multi-sensory journey through Pink Floyd’s extraordinary worlds, chronicling the music and art of Pink Floyd, from their debut album ‘The Piper At The Gates of Dawn’ to the present”.

25/02/2014: With just under a month to go until the release of the latest studio album, Asia release the first video to be taken from Gravitas. Valkyrie, the opening track from the album, has all the distinctive trademarks of the band. Read more HERE

24/02/2014: It is with sadness that we report that Francesco di Giacomo died in a road accident in Zagarolo on 21st February 2014. Read TPA’s article HERE

21/02/2014: Kscope revealed today that The Pineapple Thief’s Bruce Soord will step in as guitarist for Katatonia’s ‘Unplugged & Reworked’ Tour, details can be found in TPA’s news item HERE

20/02/2014: The 11th annual Rites of Spring Festival organisers announce ticket information for this year’s festival. RoSfest which is held in the Majestic Theatre, Gettysburg (PA), this year features eleven bands over the three days event. Read TPA’s article HERE

20/02/2014: Dutch Symphonic metallers Epica reveal the artwork and track listing for their sixth studio album to be released through Nuclear Blast Records on the 2nd May (Europe), 5th May (UK) and 13th May (USA). The Quantum Enigma will be available in five different formats. Read TPA’s article HERE

19/02/2014: Kscope have released a short trailer ahead of the release of Gazpacho‘s eighth studio album Demon. The official release date is 17th March 2014

Gazpacho recently announced a short European tour in support of the Demon album release, including two shows in the UK. Check out the dates at the TPA ProgGuide

19/02/2014: Prog Mag’s Jerry Ewing talks to Ian Anderson about the Homo Erraticus album scheduled for release on 14th April through Ian’s imprint Calliandra Records and Kscope. 18/02/2014: Due to ill health Guy LeBlanc will now sadly not be performing with Camel next month. This follows recent news that, after Camel’s short tour next month, Andy Latimer will be undergoing surgery on his knee and all subsequent gigs are on hold. 17/02/2014: The Italian AltrOck Productions and Fading Records labels have announced their first releases for 2014. AltrOck proudly present Factor Burzaco – III, whilst Fading Records release Syndone – Odyssèas. Read the TPA item HERE

17/02/2014: Cloud To The Ground is the debut release for Minibus Pimps, the collaborative work of John Paul Jones and Helge Sten and scheduled for release on 3rd March via the SusannaSonata label. Read TPA’s full article HERE

17/02/2014: Following on from previous reports HERE on TPA. “Progressive rock powerhouse Bigelf are set to release their new album ‘Into The Maelstrom’ on 3rd March” through InsideOut Music and … “the band have put together an EPK which gives fans a little insight into how the album came together”.

15/02/2014: Legendary Dutch band Focus have revisited and re-recorded some over their classic tracks for the release of the 11th studio album. Golden Oldies features the current Focus line-up of Thijs Van Leer, Pierre Van Der Linden, Bobby Jacobs and Menno Gootjes – and will be released on 14th April 2014 through the Cherry Red label. 15/02/2014: Sanguine Hum have uploaded a sneak preview from their soon to be released DVD – Live In America, recorded at RoSfest back in May 2012. The featured track below, Derision, will also appear on the band’s next studio album

14/02/2014: Back in October last year we brought you news of The Crimson ProjeKCt‘s announced extensive touring schedule in support of their forthcoming Live In Tokyo release. Our thanks to Petting Zoo PR for an updated tour itinerary, which now includes the rescheduled dates for Australia and New Zealand.

14/02/2014: Beyond The Redshift is a new alt.prog festival that takes place in London on May 10. Sponsored by Prog magazine and sister title Metal Hammer, and with a bill curated by Swedish dark prog rock band Cult Of Luna, the aim is to offer a diverse bill that, like Cult Of Luna themselves, challenges and expands the notion of what heavy and progressive music is about. 14/02/2014: Prog Mag report UK prog rockers Touchstone have announced the release of their very first ever DVD release. Live Inside Outside will be released in June. The DVD features a complete concert from the band’s recent Oceans Of Time tour and has been recorded, edited and mixed by Magenta’s Rob Reed. Live Inside Outside will also feature the whole of Touchstone’s set from their appearance at High Voltage Festival in 2010 and will also feature additional extras. 13/02/2014: Former Nightwish vocalist, Anette Olzon, will release her debut solo album Shine in the UK on Monday 31st March via eARmusic. Anette was the front woman of Finnish symphonic-metal superstars Nightwish for five years before having to leave the band in late 2012. 13/02/2014: Magellan’s Wayne Gardner has died. Trent Gardner posted the following on the band’s website:

Wayne Gardener“Today, my brother Wayne Gardner, died from a self inflicted use of a firearm. Our family is devastated by his loss and in a state of shock. I prefer not to relay any further details until I know all the facts myself. I will always cherish our time as kids growing up and our life in pursuit of music. All the effort and joy of our unique experience is what I want to think about now. His young family is my immediate concern. Please say a prayer for his eternal soul and for his family. We all love you Wayne and hope peace in God are with you. Your loyal brother…”

12/02/2014: John Wesley (Fish, Porcupine Tree & Steven Wilson), who last month signed with Insideout Music, has today released a video trailer for his forthcoming album Disconnect. The album will be released through InsideOut in Europe on 31 March 2014 and four days later for those living in the USA… More info HERE at TPA

12/02/2014: Matt Stevens is set to release his fourth solo album, Lucid, on 31 March 2014 through the Esoteric Antenna label. These are busy times for Matt, having late last year released the critically acclaimed Spooky Action with The Fierce And The Dead (read the TPA review HERE) and continues to gig constantly. 09/02/2014: The Flower Kings will be touring during April and May at selected venues across Europe. They will be supported by Daniel Gildenlöw & Friends (Ragnar Zolberg and Roger Öjerson) playing the songs of Pain of Salvation. Click HERE to see all the dates

09/02/2014: Glass Hammer will release their fourteenth studio album, Ode To Echo, on 11th March 2014. Fred Schendel, Steve Babb, Carl Groves, Susie Bogdanowicz, Aaron Raulston and Jon Davidson will be joined by special guests Rob Reed (Magenta), David Ragsdale (Kansas), Walter Moore, Michelle Young and Randy Jackson (Zebra). 08/02/2014: RareNoiseRecords announce two new releases. Twinscapes by Colin Edwin and Lorenzo Feliciati featuring guest appearances from Norwegian trumpeter Nils Petter Molvaer, David Jackson (Van der Graaf Generator), Andi Pupato (Ronin) and Roberto Gualdi (PFM). The second release by Free Nelson MandoomJazz is a double EP – The Shape Of DoomJazz To Come/Saxophone Giganticus.

07/02/2014: Back in early January we reported that following on from their one-off, full band performance of Ravens And Lullabies at last year’s Summer’s End Festival – Gordon Giltrap and Oliver Wakeman had announced a five date mini tour during April 2014. 06/02/2014: WiV Entertainment and InsideOut Music have confirmed that The Alan Parsons Project will perform prior to this year’s Night Of The Prog Festival on Thusday 17th July. Although not part of the festival per se – it will be a fantastic opening for this year’s event. More details to be announced

05/02/2014: Threshold have issued the following update from the studio. The band are currently recording their tenth album at Thin Ice Studios in Surrey, England. All the drum and bass parts have been recorded and work is now underway on guitars and keyboards. The provisional track list is as follows:

04/02/2014: Curved Air will release their seventh studio album on 17th March through Cherry Red Records. North Star features founding members Sonja Kristina and Florian Pilkington-Miska along with guitarist Graham ‘Kirby’ Gregory, who re-joined the band in September 2013 (read TPA’s article here), violinist Paul Sax, Robert Norton on keyboards and bass man Chris Harris. 03/02/2014: Asia have revealed the artwork and track listing for their upcoming studio album, Gravitas, scheduled for release on Frontiers Records on 21st March (Europe) and 25th March (USA). The album was written and produced by John Wetton and Geoff Downes and will be the band’s first release with guitarist, Sam Coulson. Read TPA’s report HERE
